I had an offer through this morning from Halifax. I was asking for £2129 inc costs, they have offered me £858. The letter also states that it is a full & final settlement. I have been thinking about turning offer down, but after what has happened i don't know what to do!
I am on benefits with four children and although this money would be very useful, my blood boils when i think how much they actually took off me.
Please can someone advise me!!
ps. They will be putting money into account within 14 days, i do-not have to contact them.0 -

Hi I wonder if anyone can help me?
I was very surprised this morning to find a letter on my doorstep one said lloyds was defending the claim the other said it was making an offer but unfortunatly i didnt understand what to do on the mcol as i already recieved a goodwill offer of £750 so i deducted the 750 offer from the total then i put my claim in but the banks are giving me the money i have claimed for online not the money that they actually owe me, Now i have been told that i can accept the offer but by doing this i have to agree to the terms and conditions and sign it, But i feel lucky at this moment to recieve anything does anybody have any advice on what i should do.
Thanks Beckie0 -
For Halifax claimants with an offer on the table, please read this post...

The above would also apply to any banks like Lloyds and Abbey who have given you a goodwill gesture, make sure you accept in part payment only and you won't be closing the case.
For everyone else asking questions, I've been out all day and haven't had time to read through the reports let alone all the questions but will spend some time tomorrow trying to answer some.0 -
craig i was the same BOS paid out on one claim within a week second claim took nearly four weeks i was given the run around all different excuses and lies i phoned nearly every day eventually demanded to speak to a manager who came out with the excuse of a backlog of payments i told him i have a letter from the bank stating 14 days and the backlog is not my problem so get it sorted i received a call an hour later money in my account. good luck mate. davie0

In view of the fact that repayments have stopped does the FSA decision mean the banks/building societies will stop making charges until the court case is decided?0

Can someone answer me some questions.
On Friday I received an offer from HSBC, I originally requested £1837.79 but have been offered £1082.90. Originally I was getting ready to tell them where they can put there offer but then when reading up I realised the OFT had put a freeze on charges for banks. So am now a bit worried about this.
1. So are HSBC able to withdraw this offer they have just sent me prior to this ruling?
2. If i accept it and the banks loose will i still be able to get the remainder of the money owed back?
3. If i contact them and say im not happy as they have not paid what they said they would will i loose my current offer?
Any help would be appreciated.0 -

Don`t worry all offers are to be honoured by banks, its people who have not been given offers who are going to suffer. HSBC put in a defence to my claim on MOnday and then a couple of days later this happens. I doubt I will get any offer now although I have written to DG Solictors and asked for quite a big drop in my claim in the hope I will get some sort of payout. If you ring them and say your not happy then its highly unlikely your get a better offer they will likely use the test case ruling and basically "take it or leave it till after the test case"
If you accept the offer they gave you then you will not be able to claim back any of the other funds. If I were you I would take the offer as you could be waiting years for a payout now. Depends how desperate you are for the funds I guess0 -
This whole process against the abbey started last November! I am now in the MCOL system waiting until next Tuesday for the banks 14 days to be up (after allowing the 5days for serving the papers) to acknowledge my claim as yet they haven't and I could win by default? Has this happened to anyone yet? This MCOL is all new to me!0
