I've been looking for a few days since the wife saw a device from a company called Apple and declared that she wanted one. At that price she can dream on.

So I ordered this yesterday http://www.ebuyer.com/450846-zoostorm-playtab-pc-3305-1030, a quarter of the price Apple ask. It might not be quite as good (won't arrive for a few days) but at least it's affordable £120 including VAT (free delivery)

BUT today they're showing it at £116.65 PLUS VAT That might indicate high demand which might be interpreted as an endorsement. It may be that it's worth watching to see if the price falls back once we've all taken delivery if we start to feed back disappointment...

It shouldn't be a bad performer, the cpu is 1.5ghz dual core but that one also includes a quad core graphics processor too. Decent enough buy for £140 in most respects. Case looks a bit chunky and hte screen is only TFT which is not as vibrant or economical on battery as an IPS screen, those are the only couple of short comings I can see. Sure wife will be delighted with it.

Personally I would still go with the Ainol Novo10 Hero mk1, it has same specification (resolution, memory, cpu etc) except it has a thinner case, IPS screen and a bigger battery for the extra £7.

I can't really tell you as apart from the odd poke around I don't use Apple products so can't compare. I don't think its going to be a problem, as even the £60 baby Ainol Legends are responsive enough for my kids to play fast paced games using touch screen controls I cant even keep up with what's going on :o :rotfl:

To make it easy for gma you could set up any tablet to be easy, remove anything not needed from the homescreen, install a locking app, I use this one to keep the kids out of apps (including settings) that they don't need to mess with - it puts up a password page before letting someone in any of a list of apps you choose. I don't mean treat gma as a child but if she knows its to stop accidentally messing it up I am sure it would be understood.

At work today someone was selling an 8 month old hardly used Prestigio PMP7100C for£50. They paid £200 new and have used it about 10 times. They say they were happy with it but wanted an ipad which they've had. I think its a good buy for £50 to see how we get on with a non apple. Any thoughts? TIA.

£50 is about what its worth. They were selling these off cheap a while ago, mostly as unhappy returns from customers...

Has old Android Froyo 2.2, fairly low resolution TFT screen for a 10", very low memory at 256mb by todays standards. This device dates back to 2010/11 and it shows - single core 1GHz slow processor.

To be honest, in my opinion it would be false economy leading to more frustration than pleasure. But you could always ask your friend to let you try it. Try it on wifi, open the browser and try loading a heavy website like a newspaper site (daily mail is a good test lots of pictures) but one that your friend hasn't already been too (as the data will already be loaded in the browser cache memory) - I suspect it will go fairly comatose!

Thanks a lot sg much appreciated. I felt it was false economy when I bought 2 samsung mobile phones. They've lasted 5 months whereas the 3x iphone4 we bought are still going strong 3 yrs later. I'll have a test of this Prestigio but don't think it's what I'm looking for for Gma. Thnx.
