Quite a few people have suggested I charge my tenants more, but right now I'm happy with what I'm getting, so far I've had no issues with my tenants ( touch wood) so I'm happy to leave things as they are - I think £510 PCM is plenty.

I us to let my flat while I lived in Sydney for 5 years and I never changed tenants or increased their rent. There wasn't much point they more than covered my mortgage, they always paid and they were always good at reporting problems which I always fixed. I just didn't see any point in antagonizing them by increasing the rent on them when they were good tenants. He managing agents however used to try to get me to increase the rent all the time.

£775 for 3 bed terraced, front and back gardens, could do with new windows and bathroom's a bit grotty. But we've been here for 6 years and the rent has only gone up by £50 since we moved in. Landlord is good, always gets things sorted asap and was really helpful when my partner got made redundant a few years ago.
We live on Canvey Island in Essex.

  • I currently live in a 3 bedroomed, stone built maisonette above a coffee shop in a small town slap bang between Sunderland and Durham with good transport links - £450.

I previously lived in a city centre, quayside, two bed, two bathroom apartment with two allocated secure parking bays. £525.

Looking at moving to a 2 bed Tyneside Flat, coastal town with, again, good transport links, and will pay around £400

Essex, one bed flat, no garden, £600pcm.

I'm constantly furious at rental costs and house prices around here, they're daft. Better in the area I'm originally from, however then I wouldn't have a job to earn any money to pay them!

I have lived in various houses over the last 6 years and have paid the following...

£800pcm - newly built 2 bed town house with study (or 3rd bedroom), garage, garden and parking in a popular location in south Manchester

£1000pcm for a (not so nice) 4 bed with parking/garden/good sized lounge in a reasonable location in south Manchester

Then £860 for a four bed (three double one single) with a small kitchen, decent sized lounge, garden and parking in south Manchester, very good location

£900pcm for a very centrally located terrace with three good size doubles, no garden, no parking in south Manchester

£450pcm including bills for a small double in Newbury, Berkshire - lovely house, parking & garden - lovely location but about 1.5 miles from town.

And finally, after living with the in-laws for £100 a month in Manchester I am now moving down to London and will be paying £1733 for a fairly tiny 3 bed flat in the centre of Shepherds Bush, no outside space whatsoever, no parking ... so a big jump from paying around £300 per month for a decent sized double room in the north to nearly double to be in London

Somebody's converted old tool shed, £600/month. ORP and small bit of grass.
    South coast.

Previous (temporary as I hated it/her) was a lodger at £500/month.

Before that, off season hotel (with pool), £630/month inc a cooked brekky.
  • we live in Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland - about 15 miles from Belfast. We rent a three bedroom semi-detached, own drive, front garden, enclosed rear garden, small en-suite to the master bedroom; £475 a month including rates (we do not have the Council Tax in NI). Large, new build three bed houses with large garden and large en-suite can be had for £500 a month including rates - not unusual. We looked at moving to Croydon, to be close to family, found rents for a two bedroom terrace to be around £1,000. Scary!
  • I live in Kentish Town, London and pay just under £1290 per month for a one bed, no garden, large livingroom with open real fireplace, large bedroom with fireplace, large bathroom with his-hers sinks and own entrance.

Whilst expensive I'm getting a true deal at this price due to the space we have. When originally looking in the area, my partner and I saw many a small boxy flats for similar price.
