I used to live by the Tesco metro down albert road and that was great (could see kens from the living room).

It wasnt a great flat and there was little insulation towards the back of the flat which meant it was cold.

The common area of pompey is nice but you'll be paying for the location.
Someone I worked with paid the same for a 2 bed flat in a high rise near the common as I paid for a 3/4 bed house off fawcett road because from the living room with a squint and a mirror you could see the sea.

I would have no problems moving to Somerstown again. They've been planing to do it up for a while now and with Portsmouth becoming more desirable I dont think it'll be long before its sorted. And I think once you shut your door you could be anywhere. It would be the parking I was after.

this information is taken at your own risk!

They are doing Somerstown up (new community centre etc) but it's still a bit rough.. the area I lived in anyway (Margate/Hudson/Pains road area). That was student housing so dimmed my view I imagine however I'm not a huge fan of row upon row terrace housing.

We don't have a car so have to be within relative walking distance of town (and previously uni). It's quite a way out in the Festing Road area but it's so lovely round there!

That's crazy! We haven't been looking for properties near the sea, they just seem to be the better ones. Our budget was up to £700 at a push but couldn't find anything very nice (so many old fashioned, bad condition flats around). It was shocking because some of the £500 properties were no better or bigger than the £700, even really close together!

I'm not from Portsmouth, moved here for uni, but it's a lovely place to live (especially Southsea & the seafront!)

Semi detached bungalow with decent sized garden with excellent privacy.Parking and three bedrooms. Very nice area 10 minutes walk to the beach. Good local shop and bus service to the town which is a mile away. It is a quiet road with no through traffic. Really great neighbours. I am in Northern Ireland and at £400 pcm am paying well below the market rate. I have gas heating and freedom to decorate as and when which I have so everything is a good colour scheme. The only negative is the landlord is too tight to update the dated bathroom or kitchen but I know I am lucky!:D

My very first flat was in Southsea, near the seafront. It was Nightingale Road. Great memories!! (Yikes, this was 1984!)

4 double bed 'executive' style house (double garage, large garden, end of cul-de-sac), in lovely area in West Yorkshire. 45 min to 1 hour from Manchester airport, regular trains to Leeds, rural (nearest post office/pub etc 4 miles). £825 per month. The landlord is lovely too.
No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...
  • Previous 2 bed flat with garage was £775 a month plus bills was on Surrey/ Middlesex borders - cheaper than next town but not best of conditions and no public transport nearby but both drove so was no trouble..

I now rent a room in 2 bed flat in Surrey for £484 a month, exc laundry. Quite reasonable for area but is a big chunk of salary still! Is from housing association as part of keyworker accomodation
I love food, hate waste and have a penchant for sparkly things ::D

Trying to find a work life balance...:rotfl:

Previous flat in Leeds was two double bedrooms and rather nice, £475/month.
Downsized to a two up one down for £375 in a nice village 5 minutes outside Leeds when the flat was sold in order to maximise my house deposit saving, now waiting for exchange on my own place :)
