I find it strange that people like say that Thatcher changed the UK for forever when she came to power but she is not responsible for anything after she left office? It is like saying William1 conquered England but nothing that happened after he died was because of him
I think they call it legacy?
that is of course so but it is meant is the sense that
later administration had the opportunity to
-reopen the mines
-reopen Liverpool docks
-re-nationalise various industries
-reintroduce 95% marginal tax rates
-reverse financial deregulation
-build more council houses
like with the descendents of William 1, the policies remained unchanges0 -

The difference is that the British people got to choose Thatcher's successors and could have voted for people (like Foot) who would have reversed her changes.
They didn't.0 -

Just because future administrations don't reverse policies it does not mean the people who made them in the first place are not responsible.0 -

I'm not sure what that has got to do with it are you saying you all of Blair's policies were OK because he was re elected.0 -
It wasn't Labour that encouraged people to buy in the 80s. I probably know more about what happened as I know people who bought in the 80s and had plenty of friends and family living in council houses at the time.
It is quite ligament to blame someone for policy's they introduced in the past if they are still having an effect.
People blame Labour for tax credits why don't the coalition
abolish them.
Of course it wasn't labour who encouraged that.
But I never referenced that. You DID reference BTL, stating that margaret thatcher laid out the foundations for BTL. Which is utter nonsense. People lay out roads, it doesn't mean they are responsible for someone doing well over the safe speed for that said road and having a crash.
You don't have to have been alive at the point thatcher was in power to know what can be attributed to her and what can't.0 -

Labour started encouraging people to buy homes in the 1960s by introducing MIRAS.0 -

I don't think you are aware how much puplicity and encouragment was giving to council tennants in the 80s.0 -

I am aware, hence why I specifically stated "and publicised it" (post 321) to make the point that she made a change and went about publicising it.
You are now telling me I'm not aware how much it was publicised.
I am aware, hence why I made the point.
This still has nothing to do with your laying the blame of BTL on thatcher though.0 -

But they were her disciples e.g. Blair'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0
