Can I assume then that the lease of the car, MOT and insurance, road tax etc are additional to the £3058? Okay then so a small 4 door car on lease - maybe £250 a month plus an additional say £50 to cover insurance and service, road tax so an additional £300 monthly

This takes is to an annual salary equivalent of £57000 to afford these things without state intervention. I am just interested in being clear on what people are talking about - if there is nothing to hide then there should be no issue with any questions. If this is what the OP is entitled too then I have no problem with that but I do have a problem with people being defensive, muddying the water with irrelevant emotional issues when I am only asking a simple question to clarify equivalencies so that we are all working off the same financial data.

All the allowance goes to motability, the vehicle should only be used for the daughter. For example the mother should not use the car to go to work and back everyday.

Another car should be provided for that, if that helps your query or other transport sort.

it isnt an additional £300 a month. the HRM part of DLA worth over £200 every 4 weeks is forfeited in exchange. if anything other than your bog standard fasmily car is required ( my daughter needed a people carrier for her son) then the recpient has to pay the additional cost

Yes I do about the appalling way this forum is run.

If you feel that way, complain to the relevant people; not to people who answer questions based on someone shared circumstances - to reiterate - the OP said they couldn't afford it and it was clearly pointed out to them that they could! Very simple really.

That was in the discussion area if I remember rightly Fbabe or before I realised that general discussion/debate on benefits should not be here.

It is also different to discuss a general concept than to single out the OP IMO.

I don't flame, it would be easy to do so, but I actually avoid answering a lot of the threads for that reason believe it or not.

I don't see the benefits question on IDS £53 pw thread yet you posted on here on that?

I think it's important to discuss at times, what if someone who is struggling with a disabled child reads this and realises they can get help, maybe to work part time to receive some stress. People including lurkers may benefit. In DT they need to be registered and so moving everything can mean others lose valuable help.

okay again I am really interested in being clear - the motility person can drive the small car for £200 (paid for directly to the provider by the government ?is that correct) but that includes lease, servicing, insurance and MOT - this would cost a person not in reciept of the high component more than £200, I am guessing as the government waives the Road Tax and the servicing, insurance etc are in the package given by the provider who has access to bulk discounts etc but a person without access to Motility would have to pay this fully themselves from their previously taxed income. Is it possible to lease even a tiny car, including MOT, insurance and servicing for less than £300. So I think £300 is a fair equivalence - which as a higher rate tax payer would require an additional £6000 of salaries to have an extra £300 net per month.

In part, but it isn't means tested. I know someone who is a higher rate tax payer who has a mobility car. They have the choice of tax free money, or the car to assist with mobility needs.

That thread should have been moved and I thought it would have been by now, sometimes it's hard to resist posting ;) especially when it's been here for days!!

I think most lurkers are completely put off, I've not seen one thread like that you refer to above. People are more likely to see that kind of more helpful information on the Disability and Dosh board than here.

I'm certainly not going to spend my time complaining about every single post that breaks the rules tpl I really would be here all day then. I can say what I think about the forum and what people say, I take the flack for it when I do. :)

also, youre basing the cost of the lease on a commercial basis. motability is a not for progit organisation.
if you did your food shopping for what it cos the supermarket to buy in, it would be a fraction of the cost

You also have to pay deposits for many motabilty vehicles. Adapted vehicles would be impossible for many to fund without motability.

They don't go to that board, look at viewing figures, they are more likely to come here.

On here there are cases like nannytone - whose benefit entitlement is a lot lower than others, I think it's good to discuss entitlements and differences. They are very differing depending on circumstances. In this case it is a severely disabled child who is involved, a singleton last week with £249 plus living costs, etc.
