Posting Messages saying' Don't bump the thread' when it wasnt bumped

The way I comp bumping doesn't affect me at all. I've been using these forums for nearly 6 years, in the same way, and I don't see the problem. Admittedly I can see that we need to avoid the random chat on comp threads - but in the grand scheme of things is the odd bump really that much of a misdemeanor?
Therefore I'm genuinely intrigued why it causes a problem for compers - how are you using/sorting the boards to comp?? I feel like I am missing out on something! :T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j0 :T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j0

I think we should have a button we can press to 'report for bumping'. Then when a 'bumper' reaches a certain number of posts reported for bumping, then then should be given:
 1st - a warning
then 2nd - a ban from posting for 30 days!
Hopefully that would stop people from deliberately bumping!
I'm not sure that would work as looking at the other recent thread on this topic (fur thread,) what one person regards as a useful bump, another person does not.
Then, of course you'll have people abuse the button...
I agree with the OP in regards to it can put people off. At times i've pondered whether or not to add some extra information to a competition thread.0

I think I may have `bumped` a post by accident.I am new here and still learning. I will now use the `thanks` button if I like a post but cannot comment on it.
Don't worry about it there is a lot to get used to but the thanks button not only prevents bumps but its quicker so you can enter more comps 0 0

I think what OP means is that the reply was given 4 minutes after the thread was created - hardly bumping when it's going to be at the top anyway.
Saying don't bump half an hour later is actually creating more of a bump.
Thanks it wasn't clear from the op that was what was meant.
The bumping is already being debated on another thread here
 https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4531803
and as I keep saying it all comes down to what you think is a ok bump or a not ok bump.
The thread the op gives as an example has been mentioned before I can't think of many other examples when the thread was still on the first page before the first bump.Rational judgement, now, at this very moment.
Virtuous action, now, at this very moment.

Willing acceptance - now, at this very moment - of what you can’t change0

That thread is probably quite rare, but I agree. In fact I just want to post on it just to bump it, but I shall resist. Sometimes there is a real reason for a bump and then the bumping police come in and tell them off. Can understand the ones that bump to say thanks or to give the answer when its already there, but sometimes you see a comp and have something to say about it,Current Aims: Laptop/PC, decent money, holiday
Best Wins: Ipad, Nintendo 3DS, £400 Shopping Spree at LK Bennett, £100 Boots vouchers
Total Wins (Since April 2012) £3442.56
Big thanks to all who post comps :T:beer:0

I disagree that the post was originally bumped due to the times of the posts this will not have inconvenienced anyone and was unnecessary to comment regarding it.
I agree - especially when the first "bumper" commented that they were only posting because the thread was at the top, so clearly they already knew the rules about bumping, and still someone felt the need to reprimand them.0

Sorry if I was unclear I have come across several of these when they were on the first page I will try and find them again.0

i'm new here so pardon my ignorance I've yet to post outwith the compers corner and I won boards. But what is it that makes bumping so annoying to others? I know it's not meant to be done but why?Starting afresh - comping as much as poss!
Hoping for: some beauty goods, clothes, amazon vouchers, anime, manga, wardrobe, fridge freezer, laptop, an ipad, vouchers for next, exercise goods, a uk break and a wee hol somewhere nice!
 Wishing all a little luck:beer:0

Rolybear makes a good point, a bump is not a bump if a reply to a post is on page one of the competition forum.0

That's what is frustrating about it there is no way that post #2 inconvenienced anyone yet they are still reprimanded for it0
