They buy your car and then sell it in British Car Auctions under the "UK Car Group" banner to throw you off the scent. They knock money off for things like spare key missing, minor mechanical faults, windows not working etc but the auctioneer doesn`t disclose the number of keys and all vehicles are sold as seen without warranty so extra profit for them. They`re making fortunes and you`re the loser...0

I was hoping for £800, they valued it at £680 which I'd take for no hassle but to then lose another £49.... Also it's not my car, so I'd need to phone and explain the situation first & make sure they'd take it.
I could probably get £800 if I sold it privately, but I just don't have the time and need it gone asap.
Is ebay any good for selling cars? I only sell small things on there. Do you put it on at a fixed price or just let it go to auction?
Will let you know how I get on.
The admin fee is for putting it on a stocking loan (yes they put your car straight on to a finance agreement while they`ve got it - Hire Purchase to you and me)0 -
No different from the SellYourMobile sites. They plan to make at least 10% on any sale on any book price (at auction) so you will always do elsewhere. For my car they quoted £2,800 online and on inspection. Book value was £3,200. A dealer gave me £3,500 as a trade in.
I much preferred the £700 in my pocket!0 -
You are also more likely to get a fair price if you have a desirable car, I am under the impression they buy all these cars cheap give them a valet and straight to the auctions. Used cars is a very strong market at the moment.
I await someone who says they only offered me £75 for my 2.4litre 1989 honda with full service history etc, they dont want it because it will be more hassle selling that than a 4 year old BMW 320D.
I agree though, make sure you list every detail and also be strong with the guy buying it, he can always make a "phone call". Give it a good clean so there is less things he can mark you down on. Remember there is also a £49 administration charge.0 -
I heard on another forum that a good trick is to ask for a price on their website, then do nothing for a week and they will email you to tell you the value of your car has gone up...
Worth a try if you can wait a week
WBAC offered £505 for my car initially. Week later text message informed me it was increased to £525.
Just sold privately for £1500 and 2 other people chasing to buy it too.
For a popular car just advertise for a fair price on Ebay and you'll sell easily and for far more.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
To fully understand WBAC you need to fully understand its business model.
The fact is, & this is why such Co's exist, is that the majority of the folk who would even consider for one moment . . . selling their car to a Co' with a WBAC business model . . . must by definition . . . be STUPID to an n'th degree !0 -

You need to understand several things
(a) its a computer generated price. There isnt someone else at the other end of the internet calculating the price for you.
(b) They pay "reasonable" money for cars they have buyers for or know they can sell on easily at auction (which is really all they do), so something odd like your car they dont want, so they bid naff money
Now yours is an extreme but its generally how they work.0 -

A bit harsh I think. My mother had to sell her son's car upon his death and could not go through the hassle of selling the car privately. Yes, the price paid by WBAC was lower than a private sale, but considering the state of the car the difference was not enough to suffer the hassle of dealing with time wasters.0 -

I did say "the majority of folk", there is always an exception to the rule.
BTW, very unusual choice of words : "My mother had to sell her son's car" !
Can we ask how much WBAC eventually paid for your mothers sons car?0 -

You know how to poke a wound there, dont you?
WBAC pay a "reasonable" trade price for cars they want, and make low ball offers for cars they dont. If the offer price doesnt suit you or your circumstances, noone is forcing you to use them. Simples.0
