I know somebody who traded in a porsche cayanne (horrible 4x4 thing) and new it had an terminal engine fault, he ended up taking £5k less for it but knew a replacement engine would have cost a lot, lot more.
The thing with cars is that most people see their car in far better condition than it is. When I used to pick up cars I had to do a damage appraisal and I have an eye for detail on cars. Most customers had to be shown the damage before they would believe it and one guy even ran inside to get a bottle of tcut to try and get a scratch out before he would let me take the car.Bedroom Tax / Spare room subsidy / Housing Benefit Reduction - It's the same thing, get over it.0 -
Others had warned me the prices quoted online by webuyanycar would be far higher than offered at their depot. Sure enough, despite describing the minor scuffs on the car their original offer of £3600 ended up less than £2900 by the time they had nitpicked every tiny blemish. A waste of time and fuel in my opinion.0

When I changed my car just over a year ago, WBAC offered slightly more than three Ford main dealers I went to.
All these companies use the same online valuation site and more or less stick strictly to the trade-in valuation.
They will offer say £3k for your trade in but magically your car becomes worth £5k when they sell it on.0 -
When I traded the Merc in some years ago WBAC gave me what they had quoted for it. One reason was the description given on line was precise and accurate and left them no wriggle room. Condition perfect , it was, they could not fault it anywhere , milage precise, service history all there, and they wanted the car. Give them an excuse though and they will beat you down on offer priceYou scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0

As I have a similar issue to the OP, this is an interesting thread.
I've been trying to sell my car for circa 18 months, used Auto Trader, Gumtree, eBay, other free ads. Result - its still sat on my drive.
Need it gone so I can purchase a new MTB. Are there any other alternatives to WBAC? I've seen Cash4Cars, anybody any experience of them?0 -

Well much appreciate the helpful contributions from forgotmyname and blue_haddock......I can assure you its neither! Thanks marlot for the helpful advice.
Anyway, as it happens the car is now sold, so I've no need to go near any of these places.0 -
I got 25% more than we buy any car quoted by just driving in to a local 2nd hand car dealer.0
