  • Another customer kicking themselves due to their own failings and blaming the big bad company. <Sighs>

You're right, I am kicking myself, I do feel foolish as I was taken in by the advertising.

However, you cannot apportion all the blame to me - in some ways webuyanycar have to shoulder some responsibility.

While I accept that their terms and conditions do detail how they operate, they do not really make this absolutely clear. Is it my responsibility to check the terms and conditions - yes. However, it isn't good business practice to have customers walking away feeling a little cheated.

Companies still have the responsibility of ensuring that they do not mislead customers, in my case I felt I was misled.

I admit I was naive, I did not expect my car to lose 25% of its value through 3 paint chips and 1 scratch that they even described as minor.

If I'm an idiot, then so be it, but I'm certainly not blaming my naivety on webuyanycar, I'm just pointing out that perhaps their practices sail close to the wind of ethical?

We have regulators in this country, why? Because if we don't the 'big bad companies' (and smaller ones) will try and rip us off. Webuyanycar have fallen foul of the Office of Fair Trading and Advertising Standards in the past, perhaps indicative that there is something amiss?

I hope that one day, in your perfect world, you are not subject to a bit of sharp practice, but if you are then I'll be happy to provide you with a patronising little comment in return.

I've had two cars valued by these people, cars with service history very good condition, super mini type cars and there valuation was very very miserable at least a third under there market value, plus a processing fee.

    Avoid them.

I wonder where all the CARS THEY BUY GO TO?

A big chunk of the cars go to auction, originally BCA who lost the contract to Manheim (Mayhem up here). BCA were obviously unchuffed at this and are now in the process of buying WBAC!
This can only end in even lower offers for cars, but they will take anything.
  • Usual story. Quoted £2960 on line, visited the Watford branch two days later and of course there were the usual bumps & scratches that go with any 8 year old car (a Toyota Corolla Verso 2.0 D4D). The guy making the assessment then decided that the paint density on the drivers door and off-side rear door was inconsistent with the opposite panels and was obviously "re-sprayed". Well that was news to me, I have owned the car for the last 6 years and bought it when it was 2 years old with full HPI check & history. No accident damage recorded.
Anyway, having firstly try to tell me the starting price was £2800 (rather than the £2960 I had from the website), he reduced the price by £818, so I was looking at £2K for the car. He phoned the manager to check that he couldn't offer more, and of course the answer was No.
I told him to keep it as I had already been offered £2700 by Car Giant in part-exchange for my new motor. Took my car to Car Giant this morning and they honoured the price in full without a second look!
Do yourself a favour and don't bother with the con-merchants at WBAC, they thieving b#st#rds!
P.S. Autotrader lists similar cars at near £4K as private sales!

My advice is leave everything blank online, let them deduct at the office. One car I sold with them I said only has one key and minor damage ( stones and door bashes by other cars, barely visible) they tried to knock it off again at the 'office', got what I wanted in the end but the guy had to get it 'authorised'.

Car had 80,000 miles so in the end a fair price as dealers wouldn't touch it.

A third party out of sight is an old car sales technique. Ask to speak to whoever the vuy is speaking to and watch the blood drain. They are sneaky car sale techniques in reverse. I have had friends tell me desirable features such as sun roof, spoliers, alloys, fog lamps etc take away from the price of the vehicle cos they came as standard at that spec. If your not happy walk away, you might get a fair deal, you might not but only you can agree to it.

Just done a quote on their website for my 'weekend' car, solely for comparison. Came up with £1415. As a comparison I rang up a dealer and they offered me £3,200 over the phone (that would certainly increase if they they saw it). Privately I'd have no trouble getting £4,650. Who on earth would use this service?

Simply because it is no hastle.

Most of the bad press is due to people not being able to accurately value their own car.

I sold a V50 to them in Oct.

2008 diesel. Offer online was £3250.

Autotrader and eBay would indicate a private sale value of around £3750 at the time.

Their initial offer was around £2500 from memory. I just laughed. They ssid what would it take to sell today. I said £2800 and they rejigged the figures to give me just over that figure. After fees i was a tiny bit under 2800 due to wanting payment asap.

If i sold privately i would have had to deal with idiots and tyre kickers and then likely get offered £2500 "if i bring cash now" or asked "whats your last price" a hundred times.

I had well oger two years of hard use for £2000 plus servicing costs as i paid £4700 for it.

Car was at BCA Enfield that day and sold the next sale.

    No comebacks to me whatsoever

    Bliss.

I may have offered to swap out my cars nice grey leather interior and put back in the black cloth one that i still had at home.

As they said it offered no value.

Just wanted to add my own recent experience of WBAC, in case it's of use to someone. I entered the details of my car as best I could and got a quote I thought was reasonable (bearing in mind this is a company and they will want to make a profit on each car). Booked an appointment, was seen on time, the guys were really pleasant, checked the car over and knocked about £200 off for scratches and scrapes I'd not noted down originally plus a bit of extra mileage I'd clocked up since my quote. I was shown all the scratches and agreed with them. Was offered a revised price which I was still happy with, so did the deal there and then. Money hit my account between 3-5pm four working days later, as promised.

You may not get as much money for the car than if you sold privately, but I can't fault it for convenience. As a single woman who knows nothing about cars, I did not fancy having a series of random people coming to my home for a test-drive and possibly trying it on to get a discount, so to get it all done quickly and safely was worth a couple of hundred quid in my view.

    I would use WBAC again.

I heard on another forum that a good trick is to ask for a price on their website, then do nothing for a week and they will email you to tell you the value of your car has gone up...

Worth a try if you can wait a week
