Personally I'd love it if people would stop bumping threads just to say "Don't bump the thread".....
If you have a problem with people bumping the posts, please PM them instead and don't add to the problem.
I can see your point the trouble is how would somebody feel if they suddenly got loads of pms saying don't bump the threads? I would feel more hasselled to get a pm than to have it pointed out in a post.
I do bump the threads to say don't bump the threads but usually only if it is on page one and if the thread keeps getting bumped.
The thing only becomes a pain if it then leads to an argument over the original bump and how valid it was. The fur one is a case in point some people see it as a valid bump as it gave them additional information other see it as a pointless bump. There are always going to be disagreements over those kind of bumps.Rational judgement, now, at this very moment.

I'd just like to say, bumping or no bumping- it doesn't impact my comping. There's a tick that says if I've entered something or not so whether things move up or down on the main board- I could give a bleep.
Many thanks to bossladysal for posting the comp and any others for clarifying the prize. Plenty of people don't try and contribute to the board so thank you to those who doDebt free 6th December 2014

I have bumped posts in the past to point out that a comp is for real fur because I know that a lot of people (including me) would like to stay well clear of such a comp. Most fur these days is fake so i do feel it should be pointed out if it's real so people can make an informed choice. I have no problems with the person that posts the comp - I think it's up to the individual if they want to enter or not. I for one am grateful to anyone that points out that the comp is for real fur, as it would upset me if I won & then found out it was real.
I say bump away! (She say's ducking for cover to avoid all the hurled objects from angry compers!)January 2016:

Do we know where the confirmation came from? all they are doing is going by what the post actually says so have added nothing.
Having actually had a look (instead of just assuming, which I was also guilty of) it appears it is almost certainly faux and not real.
You would have to ask the person who provided the info.I had only skimmed the original thread and assumed that what had been stated about it being "real fur" had actually been confirmed. However the post confirmed nothing as it was only an opinion.
As it also appears to have been the wrong opinion (admittedly one I shared) so every post after that in the original thread and in this one has really just been a waste of time and there may also be people who have been put off entering who do not return to the comp post so lose the chance of winning.
Even more reason for a post to be clarified then eh. Given you said last night, I believe, that if it doesn't say faux then it's real.. I didn't agree with that statement as it's not always listed clearly what it is.
Obviously now though you wouldn't want to be seen bumping a thread to put the correct information in though ..
I honestly don't know why you are making a meal of this issue and trying to make people not post about it? It's obviously an issue that affects many other people entering or not, given the potential controversial nature of the prize, and all people want is a clarification, if that is available. The person who bumped did so with good intention, obviously not all information posted on here is correct but if people try and post what they think is correct that is all that can be asked and many other people are grateful for that.0 -
MSE is forum based, so regardless of the rules, you'll always have people who comment e.t.c
I doubt many people even read the rules for the comping forum tbh, so i do think a lot of people (especially newbies) are unaware.
I'm not sure what the solution is, but i've seen the "don't bump the thread" comments used where i really don't think it should.
I do think in this case, the extra comment was useful.0 -
surely we're all here for the same intention, no one posted anything maliciously and personally I am glad someone pointed it out as I might not have noticed it was real fur otherwise. I think the whole thing has been blown out of proportion as if it was a direct attack on the original poster, I know you want an adult debate but honestly it's this kind of pettiness that puts me off the boards. As a newbie it's the kind words and welcoming majority that have made me want to contribute to the boards, but if we keep complaining about every second post we're going to put people off posting comps altogether!Starting afresh - comping as much as poss!
Hoping for: some beauty goods, clothes, amazon vouchers, anime, manga, wardrobe, fridge freezer, laptop, an ipad, vouchers for next, exercise goods, a uk break and a wee hol somewhere nice!
Wishing all a little luck:beer:0 -
Can we not just agree that:
Debates on fur on main board = no no
Bumping a thread (once) to clarify whether it's real or not = helpful, yes please carry on
Makes sense to me.0 -
I thought this was a forum, does it really need regulating to this degree. Unfortunately none of us have the power to say which bumps are reasonable, if you are getting loads of emails re the bumps then maybe change the way you comp? Please don't take this as a dig anyone I am just saying if something was irritating me on my hobby I would sort it out to make it fun again. People are obviously not listening to the please don't bump replies and this is always going to happen so do something to stop it from being an issue.
Ps we are all working towards the same goal - having fun and winning a few prizes.
Hooray on my longest post ever!0 -
Ok then,
If it was classed as ok to bump a competition because some people on the forum do not like real fur products as prizes (I am not giving my opinion either way if I think it is right or wrong to have a real fur product as a prize because I don't think it's something that has relevance to this debate) then should we have warnings on the comp posts that are giving fishing rods as prizes as this could cause hard to fish?
Or should we have written on every chocolate Easter comp that the prize may contain nuts because I am allergic to nuts?
Every comp is posted, it is up to each person to enter it or not. If you did enter the comp & won it & you found out it was made of real fur & you don't want this then refuse the prize or send it back, un like them if entering on FF & un follow them if on twitter
As has been said multiple time the rule on forum is that you don't bump for no reason. Posting information that is valid about a competition is not bumping for no reason. The forum rules are clear.August-September 2017: Lots of stuff

I agree the problem is we don't all agree on when a bump is a valid bump and the fur one is just one example. For some people real or fake fur big issue for other not so much.Rational judgement, now, at this very moment.
