Apart from the sheer wickedness of this evil pair, they must be incredibly stupid to come up with the original idea, and think it was a good idea and that they could get away with it.Early retired - 18th December 2014

What sort of example did any of those parents set for their children?! Mick treated women like dirt, and possessions. And the women let him walk all over them. The language, drinking, overly sexual behaviour - those kids had little chance of forming functional relationships of their own.0

It probably goes against the grain, but I feel really sorry for MAiread. I fear she submitted to Mick in everything, hence the sexual depravity and putting up with the mistress being shipped in. It was stated that she cared for all the children while he treated the mistress 'like a queen'.
Of course the recording of him telling her how proud he was of her for performing a sex act on Mosley, knowing that she didn't want to, is further proof of the control he seems to have held over her.
I daresay Mosley or Mairead will spill the beans now they've been found guilty, then go to appeal with Mick being confirmed the guilty(est) party.
Anyhoo, I feel for her, she lost her entire family through one man's utter selfishness, and after so many years of subjugating herself, I doubt she even questioned anything he said.
The children were so well mannered and polite, they were clearly loved and well raised, obviously by their mother. What a pity he was their father, what a life they and their mother could've had.....I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -

For her to do that she would have to have lost all leave of her senses. No-one goes along with a plan to start a fire, whilst there children are in the house upstairs asleep, otherwise. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. When watching the appeal on the news, I said to my partner that neither of them were actually crying and that their actions didn't seem normal. I know grief does strange things to people but it just didn't seem right.0

Your thoughts on Mairead are interesting Gravity.
I know nothing about why women enter into such relationships, continue them, make baby after baby, allow themselves to be treat like dirt. As a man who tries to treat all women with respect I can't fathom why women choose a pig like Mick. But then I know a lot of very strong, very confident women.
Feeling the way I do, and admitting my ignorance, I think Mairead deserves to rot every bit as much as Mick. She stood by and let this happen and/or she was involved up to her armpits. Wasn't petrol found on her clothes? She let her babies burn. Children she had carried, felt moving inside her for months.0 -

I tend to agree with this. The description of 'groomed' and 'controlled' (in the sense of abuse) seems very apt when you look at Mairead.
Manslaughter was the correct charge, IMO. It wasn't a deliberate attempt to kill the children.
I don't think that Philpott thought for a second that he would fail to save his children. All part and parcel of the personality which he laid bare at the trial - although he was probably completely unaware of the fact that he was doing so.
I can see why Mairead might have been unable to challenge his scheme. After all, she had been unable to challenge him on anything else.
The involvement of the friend seems inexplicable...
That's what my head says.
If I'd allowed my gut to post, I would probably have been banned!0 -

The program that was on 4 earlier is worth trying to watch if its repeated. They had a series of psychologists speaking over the interview and explaining various things Mick did and said. The way he covered his face, wiped his head etc etc.
I first saw it in the staff room one lunchtime and everyone thought they were acting. We're no experts - imagine what the police, psychologists etc thought when they watched it.0 -
I think she had huge issues around relationships with men. They mentioned in the documentary that a previous boyfriend had shaved her head in some sort of argument!
