so funny, reminds me of the days when I got books on tape from the library. I don't think I listened to a single one from start to finish, I fell asleep within a few mins of them starting and woke up to the sound of the tape switching off !

I've got a Morse story on my MP3 and I listen to it on the plane to and from Florida - never have any trouble sleeping ! :rotfl:

I often make use of my commute home for a cheeky snooze ! I set the alarm on my phone sometimes as I would hate to wake up back in town. - I remember snoring rather loudly once. (I had been ill with a bad cold) and I'm surprised no-one woke me. What was even worse was someone from work was on the same bus but I didn't know this till I got off. :rotfl:

I have found though that if I walk into town (15 min walk) rather than catching a bus then this refreshes me (and I don't feel so tired) but often I have shopping or can't be bothered to walk so I end up being lazy and catching the bus. so need to sleep....

SO the bank holiday weekend is all but over but I have enjoyed it and it will only be a few weekends till the next. I'm sad at the events in Padstow yesterday. We have been to Padstow a few times and it is a lovely place. Why do bank holidays always have to be marred by sad news reports such as this :(

I managed a bit more stitching of my pooh design earlier and think another square is almost done so another pic will follow soon. I think I'm losing patience with this pic after each square business as I keep miscounting and going wrong so the last square has taken me ages to get right. I think the end result will be good though if I can stick to the square by square stitch.

Oh and remember I said about the vintage design I've lost. (well key and material) well I haven't found it yet :( but did spot one on ebay (listed as new) so thought i would bid on it as it was a good price (£4) + £2.95 postage. but I got outbid so did bid again a couple of times so a replacement kit would have cost me about £10 but now the bids are up to £18 odd plus postage. so its cheaper to buy new now !!
  • Evening All, I have had a lovely long weekend and got a good amount of stitching done too! :j

So after spending ages marking the fabric into 10 x 10 squares I have finally managed to start, this is what it will look like once finished and the second picture is where I a, up to with it. Hoping to get some more done tomorrow evening but I must sit funny as my back starts to hurt after a while - anyone any good ideas to stop this?

A few pages ago I mentioned I was sorting my stash of threads. Well this mission is accomplished - all wound onto bobbins, numbered and sorted into number order into those plastic boxes.

Now moving on to sorting out the rest of my x-s stuff and I found 2 finished projects which I'd forgotten about.

    1. a Lesley Ivory cat, stitched by Mum a couple of years ago (she's 89 now and given up sewing )

    2. The one and only 1 stitch over 1 thread evenweave project I've ever attempted, I love it and must get it framed

interesting to see the post about with the gridding all marked out.

Can I ask those who do grid in this way whether you grid using a continous length of thread or whether you cut the thread after each + sign is marked? Is it easy to remove the gridding thread without it disturbing the other stitches or is it important to remove the + before you stitch over? if this is the case - i guess it is better to use individual bits of thread to mark each + ?

    but would welcome views....

Thank you, it was a kit that my girls bought me for Mothers Day 2012 and I finally finished it and made it into a cushion front. It now lives in my caravan.

Eric's Mum, I love the cat picture and how lovely to have something that your Mum made.

b_e_g, I think your Sleeping Beauty is the prettiest x-s I've seen for ages. I'd leave the top unstitched, it will make the main stitched part more prominent if you see what I mean. Can't wait to see it finished (no pressure then !!)

I'm back from my holiday - we had a fantastic time but I didn't even get my cross stitch out of the bag, I was too tired at the end of each day to concentrate.

Caroline - your Coke Santa is looking good, looking forward to the update pictures.

PAP - your heart is looking good. I'm interested in what you think of this as it's a potential on my list to do for a friend for her wedding. I need something that stitches up quite quickly as the wedding is only next month now.

Chicky - your little ones look as if they had a great time and haven't they grown, I bet everyone says the same.

FE - I can't help with the Vintage chart, I hope it turns up soon.

nmm - Czar looks greeeat in the mocked up frame. I personally think that after the time you put into finishing the piece it would be a shame not to buy a bespoke frame for it.

Mrs T-M - your piece is coming along really well. Look forward to seeing it finished.

Mrs MP - you had a bargain at the carboot sale. I've never managed to get anything this good so a very BIG well done to you. Your Poppy cushion is coming along really well.

BEG - Sleeping Beauty looks lovely and I agree that you should leave the top stitch free so that the remainder of the design stands out.

EricsMum - the cat your mum did is lovely it doesn't look like a cross stitch. You should frame it and let your mum see it finally completed. Your other completed design is also lovely, where is it a design of?

Well as I said I got back yesterday and my Dad picked us up from the station with a bag of goodies sent to me by my cousin. A bag of semi-precious beads, a set of pliers, several coils of wire and several bags of findings and two cushion sets to stitch. They probably wouldn't have been my choice but they are very nice.

Won't manage any stitching tonight as my son is being invested into the Explorers tonight. Will try to get some done tomorrow - must try to get my mojo back as I don't know where it's disappeared to.

Thanks for comments on SB Mrs MP and Erics Mum - decided to leave the top of the aida 'blank'.

FE - I had trouble removing the tacking thread when I tried to do gridlines so tend not to bother now :o

Erics Mum - love both pics. I have never tried one stitch over one thread. Uneasy starting next project as I am new to evenweave.

Mrs MP - love cushion, great progress.

mos - I cant see your piccies :(

Got photcopy of Lets Do Wine this morning but I feel just too tired to make a start on it tonight.

Make the most of the last bit of the sunshine tonight - tomorrow looks as though things are about to change.
