Went to make a start on Lets Do Wine this afternoon. On trying to find the centre of the fabric I have found that the material does not appear to be square. I have checked the threads along each edge and the material is cut to the thread correctly - so I then measured diagonally - one way measures 620mm and the other measures 600 mm. Obviously the material is a diamond and not a rectangle - the threads are not crossing at 180 degrees. When this is finished I want to make it into a cushion. If I sew it up will it look as though I have sewn the material in incorrectly and that the wine bottle looks 'drunk'.
DH says I should get back onto the supplier (fleabay) or I was wondering is it something that is peculiar with evenweave.
I'm fed up before I even bloomin started

Evenweave should be exactly that - so should measure the same in height and width when the same number of threads are measured. Counting threads on the whole piece would be very difficult but should be possible on an inch - count the threads in both directions on an inch of fabric and there should be 28 in each direction (or 25 or 32 depending on the count of your fabric). Has the fabric got a brand name such as jobelan? Does the selvedge have an orange line (indicating that it is Zweigart fabric)? Who was the seller? Sorry to bombard you with questions - I just logged on to look at messages as I haven't been keeping up to date and saw your urgent request.0 -

Is it evenweave or linen?
Edited - this explains it better than I can:

Thanks for the quick replies Mrs. MP and FOS. Re-checked material and confirm that thread count is correct - 28 per inch in each direction. The fabric is Zweigart Ivory Brittney Evenweave and does have the orange strip along the edge. It would appear that it has been woven 'off square'.
Was wondering about dampening it and trying to pull it into shape.
Thanks for your help.

Doesn't sound quite right to me either - I had the same with some aida I bought off fleabay for Sandy Hook- I am using it as I can't afford to buy any more and hope the quilter can fix it to look straight - hope I don't annoy them too much.
Well I have some nice news for a change. Last night I was at the Rural (Scottish Womens Rural Institute) federation (regional) competition for matter of opinion (debating like). I was a reserve but got called up to the team of 3 plus chair. We give opinions on questions set by the panel. So our subjects were- Should children be sheltered from sadness
- Should clothes designers design more for "bigger" sizes
- How to encourage younger women into the organisation
Our team was a second time from our institute. We were the young ones - we are all under 60 - most of our members are over 60 and retired.
Well, we gave our opinions - other teams in the region took part and at the end the judges gave the assessment on how we all did and we went and won - so now we are in the Scottish finals (not till October). Still can't believe it.
Back down to earth - still plodding on with Sandy Hook - oh one of the ladies in the institute heard I do cross stitching and said she had the last supper to finish - but thats a monster.
Was at work today and each day I take the day off my wee desk calendar that has quotes and todays quote made me think of us -
Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.
Well better check on FB and then some stitching - yeah.
Kind wishes to all

oh no b_e_g sorry no advice, hope you can sort it tho.
my bug threads are here so i can get on with completing it.....once I've wound on the bobbins.
well the park resorts regional manager got back to me. still thinks the park managers response is acceptable and that I have no complaint to make.
................but......................
.............has offered us a goodwill gesture of a free 3 night weekend break or 4 night midweek break in any park resort to use in the next 12 months.
Better then nothing but I still object to them refusing to accept the issues and calling me a liar. Can't be bothered to fight it any further.loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0 -
Apologies in advance for the length of this email as I have been AWOL for a few days.
I haven't done a lot of stitching for the past few weeks - not because I have mislaid my stitchy bug but because "life" keeps getting in the way. April was mega busy at work and I was often too tired when I got home (late) to stitch and anyway tired eyes and xs don't mix as I know from bitter experience.
This month (and the next 4) it is family stuff that is occupying me - June we have a special wedding anniversary party that I am organising and hosting, July is a double special birthday party and August a wedding. So lots to do.
I'm also slowly decluttering the spare room which was beginning to look like something from one of those TV programmes about hoarders. It started when DS was going through that boomerang phase after uni where he would return home for a few weeks when he was between girlfriends, flats etc and he used to leave things behind each time. Then I started adding stash (patchwork fabric takes up a lot of room) and clothes that I was keeping in the hope that I would be able to fit into them again. So I'm tackling an area at a time and sorting things into Keep, Sell, Charity Shop, Ragman, Recycling and finally Bin (the smallest pile I'm pleased to say).
Of course I keep getting distracted when I find some stash I'd forgotten about and my to stitch list is getting longer (but that's compulsory for this group isn't it:rotfl:)
I have managed to stitch a birthday card and the design will go into a coaster

I've stitched one of the superhero letters for a name plaque I'm doing

I stitched the April section for my Stitcher's 12 Days of Christmas

and started the May section.
Also here is the quilt top for which I cross stitched a square (the thatched cottage)

I'm looking forward to seeing it finished and quilted.
Off now to catch up with all the posts I have missed.0 -
Thanks JCS1, SC and chicky for your replies. I was wondering if I would be able to 'fix it' as SC mentioned re her Sandy Hook squares. Tried to work through it with DH and we think it might be less noticeable on the evenweave than it would have been on aida. Just leaving things for tonight and will sleep on it before deciding what to do. Again, many thanks for your speedy help.
SC - well done on getting through to the finals :T
chicky - great news. Enjoy the break.
FoS - love the pics. Sounds as though you are going to be a busy bee over the coming months. Enjoy all your celebrations. Seeing your 12 days update reminded me I've got one to finish too
Oh well thats about it for tonight now. Think I will settle down on sofa and actually watch tv instead of just listening and glancing up now and again whilst stitching.

In slight shock, checked up on the stray cat and there are 6 kittens :)
3 x Ginger, 1 x black and white, 2 x tabby/torties. They will be 3 weeks old tomorrow, so need to start weaning, can't expect the poor mother to feed that many for long.
Pictures to follow at weekend, trip to pet shop to stock up tomorrow night.0
