  • Huge congratulations His Missus! What an amazing achievement!

Congratulations to Nanny G too :T fantastic news!

I've had an interesting couple of days - it seems that the powers that be at work are moving into compulsory redundancies for some departments  but I feel incredibly lucky to hear that our department is not being targetted - it's a massive wake up call for me - it just shows how vitally important it is that I clear my debts

However, on the bright side, I have banked 2 chqs from lessons taught over the last 2 days which mean I now have £50 to pay towards my Virgin CC (which is the first one I want to clear)

Also, I was paid yesterday & am feeling very proud of having a budget in place (if a little scarey)

Anyway, not a SFD today but I've already sorted out my lunches for work next week & started paying my commitments for this coming month :) I am trying!

    Hope you're all ok

    Thrifty...

I was trying to imagine what I would want to hear if I were in your hubby's situation...

Try and be really positive about getting both your finances on track - as a joint effort. You could just say something like - how much better you feel for getting things sorted and for actively moving out of debt - and you'd like for him to be able to feel that too. Are you gonna come clean and say you opened his mail? It's a tricky one... but at least it could give you the opportunity to say you wished he'd felt he could talk to you about it - and stay positive - how you can help and support him in becoming debt free too... Maybe offer to sit down and see what you can both do (rearrange the budget?) to enable him to clear his overdraught as well... He probably feels like a bit of a failure as you've both spoken about your progress and I'm sure he's seen how well you are doing... so it's maybe about helping him to understand what's got him in this situation, what is triggering his over spending - and seeing if you can sort it together...

Ooh - You ever heard of the feedback sandwich? It's a good way to deliver difficult stuff/constructive criticism. You start by saying something positive (you know i love you and i care about your happiness...) then you deliver the stuff you need to raise, and finish on a positive (it would mean a lot to me if you'd let me help you out the way you've supported me...) or something like that. It just softens things and hopefully the person receiving it is less likely to get defensive!

  • congratulations his missus! Massive well done - you are an inspiration to us all!
I sadly haven't had any SFD recently but am going to do my budget for May this weekend & get myself back on track.
Good luck with the conversation Thrifty. I had to have a similar one with my Dad when I was younger & although it was really awkward, it has to be done. You can't under what you saw & I bet you both will feel better for it being out in the open. I wish you all the very best x

Morning all, the sun has gone into hiding but that's OK as have lots of bits to do around the house. Seems its that time of month again when we all look at our budgets and try to pull the belt back one more notch- if only that was happening to my waistline too, lol!
His missus being debt free is a real blast up the backside mentally for me....think I might try visualising how it will be to be debt free and see f that helps keep me on track.
My tablet does not support any of the budgeting tools on this site so will have to come up with my own. Must get a true idea of what needs to happen and where my dfd is.

    Onwards and upwards....

Hello everyone  long time no see n all that.

I think April is a write off. I haven't gone off the debt free track, just totally lost track of my numbers with new job/birthday celebrations etc. I know I have hit my SFD target thanks to an excellent beginning of the month but that's about it. Heyho, I promise to be good in May!!

    And congratulations his missus!

    Hello all!

Saturday big shop and I went over my £100 weekly budget but I didn't in the end ;)
Butchers £17, Fruit n Veg £9, Bakery £2.50, Dairy stall £5, H&B £21.50 (£10 on the kitties) and then Asda £50 = £105. Decided to use the £2 I had left on Asda giftcard towards the total and Hubby said he'd pay the £3 over-budget bit as he'd thrown some naughty nibbles into the trolley. When she scanned the giftcard it still had £10 on it so shopping only cost £40 so I'm actually £5 under my budget :D
