The winner is: Dorking.
It's where I want to go.
The prospect of having a permanent job is too good, especially with a baby on the way.
It starts us on the road away from London.
The prospect of moving away from PA work and into something meatier/more profitable is very exciting.
The fresh air will be a great change.
Spending money at first to make money later.
Wife's blessing.
Just called the Covent Garden agency and told them that I'd changed my mind. My first authoritative 'no' after a life of 'yes'. Boy, are they upset at losing someone who said yes last week. How things change!
Leaving early means I need to maximise my opportunities with my daughter. Having leave days from August means I can take occasional long weekends and fun days with her (and be paid for bank holidays!). I don't qualify for statutory paternity leave but I think they'll be amenable to some concessions if I crack on. I'll have the evenings and weekends.
Of course that means less time on here.
I'll have to concentrate on building up my cred ... lots of work to do down there as we need to work on contacting suppliers and fleshing out our offices. I don't even know if I have a computer yet ...
I've got the chance to learn more and be useful.
I'll see if I can't bring the DFD down too.
Plus, physically, within a year I could be a real beast on my bike! Another kettle of fish. To keep running, working out and eating fresh foods = six-pack.
Looking forward to Monday.

Yay! That walk helped then? I'm so glad you've made a decision, and at least being on a permanent contract you'll know exactly what you have coming in & going out each month!
Depending on exactly what the work is anyway, if you got broadband at home you may be able to negotiate 1 day a week working from home maybe?Total Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06

You sound so postive with the changes. Make sure you tell your wife of these plans too so she can begin to see the changes in you too. Can you access the site at night? Just so you can keep us updated with your progress?

It makes me cross too. But I've been saying yes too long, to her and to my whims. If I definitively say 'no' to things that don't profit me, perhaps that will make an impact.catewithers wrote: » sorry - but she makes me cross. What about your freedom?? What about the efforts you're making? What about compromise?!!!!!!
Sorry. Rant over.
My efforts haven't made anything happen yet! Nothing tangible, that is. But today sends a shot across her bow ... I'm doing something to make our future happen.
To be fair, folks, she turned down a job in Loughton, Essex earlier this year - she could've been a vice-principal at a school there. Same thing applied - it was too far a commute, she didn't want to be away from her daughter and give up her Fridays that she fought for. It was a week of agonising over the ins and outs; I was happy to make changes to help and told her so.
Now she's being offered a hike in pay (her 0.9 is being upgraded to full, still on 0.9 hours) at her job. A job she hates, mind, but she's stayed in it because my employment record has been so spotty. (And she may yet get pretty much the same title, too.) Hopefully with her experience and her recent MA she could get a good post down in Sussex, where we're looking. I'll soon be in a position to do the same.
The next 12 weeks will be a real test. The sooner I'm debt-free ... I'm really looking forward to making those overheads count.US student loan (2.48%): [STRIKE]$19,152.65[/STRIKE] $2700.19

I thought about it, but I have no money to spend on a fizzy. Perhaps by the winter I might be able to get one, the helmet and the waterproofs.Could you do the journey on a moped?
Or maybe I'll be as strong as an ox and riding every day ... ?
From a green perspective I'm against it, too, but we'll see, if needs must.US student loan (2.48%): [STRIKE]$19,152.65[/STRIKE] $2700.19

That's also a possibility ... my wife has negotiated a broadband allowance, but has left it hanging. I need to figure out what's best for us, so I'll head over to the broadband forum soon.Depending on exactly what the work is anyway, if you got broadband at home you may be able to negotiate 1 day a week working from home maybe?

I'm planning on posting a list of goals on the fridge. I think she'll be interested that not one goal will have anything to do with triathlon.Great

Accessing at night - it's dial-up, it's her laptop, it's our phone bill. And if I'm on a forum ... she's just not that clued-in to see that it might help. Yet.US student loan (2.48%): [STRIKE]$19,152.65[/STRIKE] $2700.19
