    Blimey. That's a bit of a dilemma. :(

What does your gut instinct say?

I get the feeling that whichever job I choose I'm going to have to fight second thoughts.

If I choose Covent Garden, I'm really going to rue the opportunity to advance within the NHS into a different field.

If I choose Dorking, I'll miss the chance to smack these problem debts in the !!! and build up my reserves quicker.

I really want Dorking and have been fighting to make it work, time- and money-wise.

Life would definitely be easier with Covent Garden.

  • My gut is for Dorking - it has prospects, not soo pressurised, good career prospects, yes you cant hit your O/D as quick but remember you have to be happy, you never know you might be able to lift share?

Dorking is the one that's going to provide you with long term financial security. Ok, it may take you longer to pay off the debt, but will it not improve things at home as your wife may see that you're thinking long-term and trying to provide stability and security in the long term?

It also provides opportunities to advance in the future - as you say - and so up your earnings and make life even easier.

Short term loss for long term gain?

DFD goes back to December '09 too.

My gut instinct is: I need some lunch.

    Hi BW,
It sounds to me as though you want the NHS job, and the prospects long term do look good. I do think you should go with your instincts here (speaking from experience) and solve the travel problems as they occur. If there is a train service it is not so very difficult and you can perhaps cycle or drive 1 or 2 days a week. Season tickets make the train cheaper (even weekly ones are cheaper than paying the fare every day, make some enquiries), and some organisations will give staff interest free loans for season tickets. As for the debt, well it will come down anyway, as you will have more money than you have had for a while to put towards it. Anyway, whatever you decide, it is in a nice position to be in, to be able to pick and choose from 2 good job offers.
Good luck with whatever you decide!

Your original DFD was October 2009 - so this new one is ony 2 more months!! That's hardly a disaster is it?

    Go for it. :j
