Just so long as they come back with the right shelf unit.as you live in Croydon you could leave the kids in Ikea for an hour or two

One 'date' night a month is a good goal. If I organise it, so much the better.

I'm looking very much to leaving the interest and the Additions fee far, far behind. That plus lottery is £40 more to send to the States for the student loan. I hope the exchange rate stays up until I can transfer the balance over here.I hope she says yes! My sister did the quick loan thing for me. I think my account was in credit for 3 days, and that was enough. A&L matched my overdraft limit of £3,750!
I can't tell you how wonderful not to live in my NatWest overdraft at 18 point something per cent any more. I actually EARN interest on that account now (OK, only pennies, but it still feels like a big achievement).
Good luck with the interview

Good god, it just got worse.
They want me, and I want to take it. But ... and there's a big but coming ...
It's less money to start, temp to perm at £11.57/hr, £1422 avg/month (works out to £30/mo more than now), but in August (like a probationary period) I would be permanent at £24k, meaning £1500/month take-home, a rise of £108/month. So far so good.
It's NHS work. Once I'm in I have all sorts of chances for training and advancement, and flexibility in time and ultimately in where I work, should we decide to move to the coast.
It's a lovely place to work and my boss would be fantastic.
I've done project work before and would relish the chance to start a project from scratch (they have just moved in after having their business case approved) and have it all at my fingertips.
The problem with that is that cycling that far - almost a 3-hr round trip - 5 days a week is too much. At most my body could handle 3 days.
I have negotiated one day a week by car with my wife. When she's more heavily pregnant, she'll need it.
For the other day I would have to take the train, and there is a neat little service running from nearby Mitcham Junction to Dorking, £8 return x 4.33 = £35/mo, which negates the benefit of the wage rise and eats into the benefit of dropping the lottery and changing bank accounts. If there's a problem with my bike, that price goes up.
It was easier when I didn't have a choice!
COVENT GARDEN
Pro:
Great money, £26k pro-rata
Can bite into debt quicker
Can keep looking for permanent work
Short, predictable commute on bike (45-50 minutes)
Flexible hours
Chance that the woman won't return after leave
Con:
Only an 8-month contract
Higher profile role, a real test, can't afford distractions
Anxiety about keeping it
Environment is extremely urban
Don't want to be a PA forever
DORKING
Pro:
NHS - 'nuff said
£24k permanent job after initial probationary temp
Chance of training
Chance of advancement
Chance of mobility
It's something I know I can do, and do well
Great people
Great offices
Fresh air commute (gorgeous, plus Box Hill or Ranmore climbs, cycling heaven)
Responsibility for a large project, not just straight-up PA
Flexible hours
Con:
Too far away
Less money at first when I'm too close to the max of my overdraft
Too pricey, biting into my £120/month surplus
Things can go wrong on a longer commute, more wear on the bike and bodyUS student loan (2.48%): [STRIKE]$19,152.65[/STRIKE] $2700.19
