Exactly why I asked if she lived near me, as one of my husbands BF is a member of a well known biker group and I'm sure they would be delighted to help out in a time of need..
I think it's a brilliant idea.
I secretly would love to go on a motor bike of any description (have never been and for various reasons am extremely unlikely ever to change that). It would be an incredible experience I think.0 -
I have honestly never thought of myself as being an over protective parent. What with this thread and the leaving kids alone thread I need a rethink maybe?
But I can't see myself going to a bikers club and asking a complete stranger to take my child off, god knows where, on the back of a motorbike.:A

I don't think it's chavtastic as such, but where I live (on a midlands council estate, not posh!) it's something that only chavs do. Out of 60-odd year sixes there will only be only 1 or 2 limos.
I don't turn my nose up at chavdom though, and I know some very nice chavs. We'd find a Harley much more exciting than a limo, but others might think it was naffActually, of all the suggestions I like the ice cream van idea best :rotfl:
You're right, it is probably a bit chavvy, it's just that it's been the done thing on their last day for a very long time. I think it would be a bit more chavvy if it was just one or two turning up for a few kids, but with ours it's more of an organised thing for all of them, I think they leave at about lunchtime and the younger kids are allowed to come and wave them off. I guess it wouldn't make a hell of a difference they had a coach or a couple of mini buses really, same thing, it's just a means of transport to the bowling alley. They usually have a leavers assembly and shirt signing the day before. I can't wait for next year when DD takes part and MIL will be bumping her gums about how there was never such a thing when she left school and she was put to work the following day, etc.....:rotfl:
I think it's probably preferable to a "prom" where the temptation is to get them tarted up, even at such a young age. Jeans and t-shirt and a limo to bowling is not as bad as it could be.
JxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0 -

The thing is, it's people who are chavs not the activitiy - unless it's bingo:rotfl::rotfl:. I've been in a limo with the girls from work as a surprise for a colleague for her hen night! I hardly think you can call a limo full of accountants chavs!!!
DD primary was (well still is) in an affluent area and had limos but you wouldn't class the children in the limo chavs!
I would call someone a chav based on how they speak, their attire (make up, hair, tan, jewellery). Not all are chavs some are just common:D~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

Oi, nothing chavvy about bingo - love a bit of bingo with my Elvis blobber!!!
I did the hen night limo thing about fifteen years ago when they were a little rarer then, and between us all it cost as much as a taxi/minibus would have done into town, but we had an absolute scream. Good memories.

Oh I hope the limo thing isn't a tradition here because I really can't see the point and would think it a waste of money... That said I wouldn't be happy if my child was left other and would definitely speaking to the school about it to ensure it didn't happen to anyone else next year if anything else.Save £12K 2013 #54 - £4625/£15k£19,625 saved since 2011£50,000 by August 2014SPC #1925 £600

Thank you very much for the offer but my son is not a typical boy and really not into bikes, it wasn't so much 'wow I get to go in a limo' it was more 'yay I get to go in a limo with all my friends'Funky_Bold_Ribena wrote: »I don't understand - if it's not an issue why start a thread on it in the first place? Because it was an issue and then some people suggested picking him up early and taking him out somewhere nice, after speaking to my son this is what appealed most to him.Slimming World - 3 stone 8 1/2lbs in 7 months and now at target :j0
