I will look for a suitable link, but its irrelevant as Pedigree Pet Foods (Mars) are well known for using animals to test the safety of new products before they go to market.

Nothing there about using rabbits to test chocolate. Not surprising as its poisonous to them.

For being abusive? Hardly. I've said a statement is b*llocks, not abused anyone personally.

If there is an issue with animal testing (and I don't doubt there is), making unfounded, easily disprovable allegations hardly adds weight to other claims, does it?

Wind your neck in, some reports say Monkeys some reports say rabbits were used, it was in 1984 on November the 19th, Mars were forced to withdraw all its products after the ALF had stated they had poisoned products with rat poison as part of a protest against Animals being fed a high sugar diet to investigate tooth decay.

I dont really want to spend the day arguing the toss because TBF I have noticed in other threads that you invest a great deal of time in pedantic points that lead nowhere, so I shall refrain from replying to your posts.

If you think you can switch to Cadburys remember they use splenda which was tested on animals as well.
  • A few points/questions:

    - Fish might well not be 'meat' by some definitions (well by some definitions even fruits/nuts are meat!) but regardless, eating fish IS NOT vegetarian!

    - Is this a world wide change or just in the UK? I am particularly interested in India. If these products are sold there, then there is NO WAY the country would allow the use of rennet which involves the killing of a calf (one of the most sacred animals to Hindus). Also, where to Muslims and Jews stand on this? With regards to the rennet not being halal/kosher.

    - Do Snickers bars stay good frozen? :D
It may be worth for some to invest in old stock whilst it's still on the shelves.

    - Does everybody realise the same animal rennet is used in the manufacture of some CHEESE!? Unless it specifically states 'suitable for veges', cheese probably sin't vegetarian! If you stop eating mars bars, you better start thinking twice about takeaway pizzas, ready made sandwiches etc...

I wonder why they opted for this over recombinant rennet unlike most cheese manufacturers. Not that I'm a vegetarian, just wondering.

I think theres a few issues here - the first being that unless you grow everything in your back garden, everything you eat either seems to be unethical or bad for you. I think sometimes that knowing all the bad things companies do can just be depressing, we would never be able to eat anything!
The second being that we all need to stockpile frozen mars bars and snickers and then sell them on ebay for vast amounts of money to all the pining veggies - thats if I can spare any ;)

I've just realised that makes me sound like someone who hides their head in the sand and doesn't care. I do - just trying to eat healthily, vegetarian, cheaply, and ethically can just sometimes get too much.
