    What strawman?

Your feeble attempt to attack my position on non-violence by presenting a completely unrelated scenario from the one we're discussing where you believe one would have to be violent in order to prevent worse violence.

Attack my position in context in which it was set out, if you wish, but I'm not interested in playing your little game.

But you said you had a zero tolerance position on violence (so you then expanded the discussion), how was I supposed to know you only meant some violence?

If the child is removed from the parental home, the child may regret their actions.

I hope she starves him now for going to the teacher and costing her wages..

It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

In the same way that I can't be the only one to be prepared to give benefit of the doubt that it's the first time this woman has been driven to her limits by a mouthy 13 yo who decided to cause trouble - it works both ways !
I must say, I'm disappointed by the number of people leaping to the defence of someone else's violent conduct.

While I am disappointed that anyone would jump so quickly to make someone out as a child abuser when they don't know the full story.
    I can live with that.

As can I live with mine :)

Wow how things have changed, no one even knows the circumstances. I got the odd smack as a kid and did me no harm.

No wonder we have so many little shuts running around with guns and knives nowadays - lets just put them on the naughty step, that'll work.

My siblings and I were smacked when we were kids, it was horrible. So horrible that I vowed I would not smack my kids when I had them. I have stuck to that and I have three lovely kids who I am proud of, two of which have their own children now and do not smack them either.

Not smacking children does not lead to unruly kids, not disciplining them is the problem.

There were times when my kids were teenagers when I could have easily have clumped them, I didn't though and am so glad I didn't.

None of know the full details from the OP. Most people are making assumptions and to be fair that is all we can do because there isn't enough info in the OP to do otherwise.

Unfortunately some parents claim to be incapable of disciplining their children without resorting to physical abuse.
