Child-minder suspended

I think we need to know the full story before any judgment can be made. I am not against smacking a child's bottom if they have been exceptionally naughty, never did me any harm. 13 year olds these days seem to have no respect for their parents and can be quiet intimidating. My friends 13 year old regularly slaps her and kicks her and as yet she hasn't retaliated, I myself would have given them a good hiding and they wouldn't dare touch me again. But then again I would let my child get to a point where they were hitting me, it's all about boundaries and them knowing how far they can push me
Anyways I'm rambling a bit here, guess I just wanted to say that you need to know both sides of the story before you make judgment. If she has been your childminder for 3 years with no problems then I wouldn't pull the child out until you knew the facts.0 -

We? Speak for yourself."There may be a legal obligation to obey, but there will be no moral obligation to obey. When it comes to history, it will be the people who broke the law for freedom that will be remembered and honoured." --Rt. Hon. Tony Benn0 -

I am asking for my friend, the facts are... her child minder smacked her 13 year old son who told a teacher who rang social services who rang Ofsted and have now suspended child minder pending an investigation.... Does anyone know how long this takes and the possible outcome?
chinese whispers maybe:j0 -
Indeed, it is one data point from which you can extrapolate the whole future
So if I only murder one person, that's okay because it only happened once?
Logic FAIL."There may be a legal obligation to obey, but there will be no moral obligation to obey. When it comes to history, it will be the people who broke the law for freedom that will be remembered and honoured." --Rt. Hon. Tony Benn0 -
On your part, yes. And a failure of moral philosophy on your part too.bitemebankers wrote: »So if I only murder one person, that's okay because it only happened once?

There is no interdependence between the morality of an action and the value of that action as a single data point in predicting the future. You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0 -

It's difficult to get a picture of what happened and how serious it was from that - if you say she smacked him, that makes me think of an open handed smack on the bottom. But for a 13 year old, that isn't going to hurt, and it seems strange that he would mention it to a teacher. It makes me think that either the boy is trying to get his mother into trouble, or it was more serious than a smack.0 -

What complete twaddle. I'm not even attempting to "extrapolate the future" so go build your strawman somewhere else. After an adult has used violence against a child once, I would not be prepared to wait for it to happen again before taking action. That is all."There may be a legal obligation to obey, but there will be no moral obligation to obey. When it comes to history, it will be the people who broke the law for freedom that will be remembered and honoured." --Rt. Hon. Tony Benn0 -

Perhaps you would like the childminders son put into care then as well?
It could be that the childminder has a history of violence and this was the final straw for the boy, who did the right thing in seeking help from an appropriate adult. Equally it could be that the son is a little !!!!!! who beat his mother, she hit out in self defence and he decided to get his own back by reporting her.
Both the above scenarios are extreme, neither probably (hopefully) true, but I for one think it unfair to be accusatory to the woman without the full story.0 -

No, but circumstances are considered in sentencing, and reaction and understanding reflected in parole decisions.0
