A good drama to watch with teenage son?

My 13 year old son loves comedy. He's currently watching Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em on DVD, and loving the slapstick antics of Frank Spencer
. The complete set, including Christmas specials, was less than £15 on Amazon.
Other than that, he watches series such as Mythbusters and DIY type programmes - maybe not typical for 13 year old lads :cool:0 -
I don't know about anyone else but I've got a couple of year's worth of viewing out of this thread so far!
Some episodes are, others aren't - at 13 it'd depend on the child. I'd not let my 11 year old watch it unless I'd vetted a particular episode, but some episodes he'd be okay with. This would also go for Dexter and The Walking Dead.Is CSI violent or disturbing? I've never watched a second of it but have heard about it for years, it sounds like a good possibility.0 -
If you like a BBC drama, there was one on Sunday night that was quite good. Our Girl was about a young girl who wanted to join the army. She came from a bit of a dysfunctional family and was a rough diamond.
The Scandinavian crime dramas are all good. However, Wallender is a bit less shocking than The Killing. Also, Merlin was worth watching. There was also a mini series on a few weeks ago which was very good called A Mother's Son. Very tense and absorbing. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -
I used to like watching Taken with my youngest son. If you go on Amazon, search for 'Taken tv series' It has Heather Donahue and Dakota Fanning, just so you don't confuse it with the other taken. It's about a visitor from space but if I try to describe it, it probably won't sound as good as it is. Hope you both have fun.0

I watched that too and it was good. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. I thought The Boss with Kelsey Grammer looked good but saw it wasn't recommissioned for another series so that has put me off watching. Has anyone seen that?
I've watched both seasons and was sorry to see it axed. Although if something like The Wire didn't engage you then I doubt Boss would either. Very different story, but a similair structure in that it's a gritty story developing over the course of a season.
Friday Night Lights as mentioned doesn't require an interest in sport, or knowledge of American Football. It's the story of young people growing up in a small Texas town and their family's. The main characters are part of the football team and the teams story plays a part, but it's really the relationships between them all that drives it. It's an excellent show. The second season is a bit weaker than the other seasons as it was filmed during the writers strike.
Band of Brothers is another great shout. Probably my favourite bit of TV/Film ever. I've watched that boxset to death. Ten episodes of the highest quality. If you don't get tears in your eyes at a couple of the episodes of that then you best check that you still have a pulse!0 -

The events of the last century are charted by the impact they have on one family in a small village.
Written by Peter Moffat, and John Simm is in it, so it has a great pedigree.
I am looking forward to seeing this one.The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. Not one to watch with a 13 year old maybe, but what was that modern day drama called, that was based on prostitutes disappearing from a town? The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses.
