Jericho. About how a small town copes after a nuclear attack on the US, then it gets more complex, conspiracies and so on.

Its largely unheard of but really good. The story resolves satisfactorily in one and a half seasons as well rather than dragging on for years and years like some US dramas.

I've just spent the last 3 nights watching 10 episodes of this with my 11 year old - we're hooked. Absolutely brilliant and I can't believe I'd never heard of it before! Thankyou.

We love Friday Night Lights and I dont like sport and know nothing about american football. It is about the players and the coach and his family. I watch it with husband and two daughters 9 and 13, my two girls aren't sporty either.

Could a subscription (or rather the free trial to see if it's for you) to Netflix/Lovefilm help test the waters, see if there's something you both find?

My mum and I are watching Foyles War (through unblock-us on the american netflix as we find they have MUCH better content than the UK one does) We've not seen the 2 new eps yet as we're up to S6 at the minute so nearly there. (with Foyle doing funny things to us both :rotfl: :o) After that I'll be bringing her up to date with Law and Order UK (Ronnie! :heart2: :happyhear) in time for the new series in May (can't wait :D)

They're not too overtly adult IMO (and I've seen LOUK many times as I have the DVD's as sadly it's not available on Netflix, however it is on ITV3 on weeknights) and very enjoyable.

I'm excited now! I was going to watch that one by myself but given what you say it looks like we can watch together it in the holidays. I am still waiting for it to arrive, though. If I'd just paid the extra £2 or £3 for a new copy with prime delivery we could be well away by now.

I did buy DS Flashforward which I watched on C5 a few years ago. He has loved it, it got terrible reviews but I quite enjoyed it, your son might like that too?

Lots of great suggestions here, I'm going to try a few of those myself!

Personally, my favourites are: Firefly (it's got it all, seriously), Bones, Dexter, Suits, Friday night lights (fantastic drama!), Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Sherlock (the US series with Johnny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu is quite good too, it's called Elementary), The Office (US), Parks & Rec (very funny!), Modern Family, Castle, Parenthood, Sons of Anarchy (although a little rough for a 13 yr old), Burn Notice, Psych and last but not least Arrested Development. *breathe*

    I watch a LOT of series..:p

Brilliant. Thank you! I'm going to have a google at the suggestions but this is exactly what I was hoping for.

Jericho struck me, it looks like exactly my sort of thing so might watch it regardless and it got 8/10 on imdb which is high. I can't believe I haven't heard of it.

I hadn't heard of Jericho, but when we were on our free Netflix trial a few of our friends watched it, so we gave it a go and we loved it.

My teenager watches Bones with me. He's 16 now and thinks it's lightweight and wishy-washy, but when he was younger it was just right.

I like to watch the occasional TV programme with him anyway, even if it's 'rubbish'. It's good for bonding. He has friends who never watch anything with their parents which is a shame I think - my son loves watching Attenborough series with us, and the Cox programmes about space that go over my head, BBC programmes about evolution, etc. just the lightweight stuff that Alice Roberts presents.

He's currently watching 'Babylon 5' with my husband.

My (now) 16yr old daughter enjoyed watching state of play with us when she was 13 - it's gripping. Firefly is excellent, justified is really good and I enjoyed Grimm. He might like the Wire (although I found it hard going). She adores Sherlock and Modern Family. A Town Called Eureka is good fun and one we all enjoyed and we are now getting into Warehouse 13 too.

I chuckled when I saw a trailer for Parks and recs, I tend to stick to British comedy but I will check that out. Firefly looks good, too, it scored over 9 in the reviews on imdb which is huge. I think that will be the next one
