Sarcasm?
Shallow Grave gave me nightmares and I was about 25 when I watched it, couldn't look at Christopher Ecclestone the same way ever again...0 -
I second the West Wing - excellent stuff.
Also: Revenge, 24, Person of Interest and I highly recommend Supernatural - is it about two guys who hunt down demons but it's really cool (and 15 rated). I love Sam & Dean

And consider The Big Bang Theory & Modern Family. I've just been through the 5 season box set of Big Bang and it's fantastic!0 -
I think I DS2 started watching Band of Brothers when he was 14, he loved it so much that I bought a second set for him to have at his dad's. And to put this in context he's a bit of a wuss and shhh, don't tell his mates but we watched the whole of Glee during the same holiday and Twilight during the next one... (he didn't get on with Twin Peaks though). I held off watching Deadwood with him until he turned 15 but he's loved that as well.
I know you said no paranormal but... how about Carnivale? 1930's, last great age of magic, evangelical maniacal preachers. We loved it but it is a while since I watched it so a second opinion might be a good idea.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Friday Night Lights?
All six(?) seasons are on US Netflix (use Unblock US for access).0 -

Breaking Bad has been one of the best shows made in recent years and unlike some shows has just got better and better as the seasons have progressed. It's not on any of the Sky channels. No UK vendor has bought the rights to it. The only way to legally view it in the UK is through Netflix.
Final season of it airs this summer in the USA.0 -

My ds has loved the scandinavian dramas on BBC4 - the Killing, the Bridge, Borgen etc. We also watched the Wire together but I see you have already watched that.0

Another vote for Bones here. We've also enjoyed Dollhouse, Sanctuary and Fringe.0
