I would like to spend £500 per month for 3 meat eating adults, 1 vegetarian adult, and one 8 year old who hates change. Also the meat eaters need to loose some weight.0

Hi Florenceem.
We never buy takeaways, our last was over 2 years ago now.
Snack foods are the problem in this house, for sure. My 2 boys eat a LOT. They will happily eat breakfast (porridge and toast, with fruit), Lunch (at school), then come home and munch on snacks (normally bisuits, a packet of crisps, fruit, jelly) and then eat a huge big meal for dinner.
Both of them are very active though, and have no weight problems or health problems.
I really dont think its fair to restrict their intake, as they are growing, healthy lads...but they are costing me a fortune!!0 -

Do you have time to bake? There are lots of cheap (and healthier) recipes for snacks, from home made hob nobs to flap jacks and cakes. If you have to buy snacks you could try Approved Foods - I keep trying to do an order but all I can see that we would want would be lots of snacks! I've got a teenager who is starting to develop hollow legs too!0 -
I had planned to make burgers for the kids tea from some mince from the freezer. Sounds simple? I am vegetarian, OH is out and I have lost confidence! Jamie O says to use crushed cream crackers (!) and an egg, others say to use chopped onion and herbs... ? I just want a basic recipe which will keep the kids happy.Grocery Challenge (2 adults 2 kids)

Then they did their homework while the dinner cooked.
I had no problems filling them up with dinner - lots of veggies + Yorkshire Puddings/stuffing - to offset small helping of meat. Then a HM pudding - crumble with custard or HM trifle or fruit flan/pie with ice cream. If your boys are not pudding fans - HM soup with HM crusty bread.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Spend of £11.12 today at Aldi - over the £25 this week.
I blame Mr F - he spotted Tetley tea bags - 100% free so 160 for £2.35.
I can shop next week for free at Mr T - got a complaint gift card. :jDecluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Can I be put down for £160 again for May please?
It's going to be very tight to come in under that as I've bought our holiday booze in this month's, so with that and the normal big grocery shop I'm up to £145 already. However the freezer is quite full so I'm hoping I can end up not too far off.0
