First spends of this challenge. Stocked up on a month's worth of juice, coffee, baking ingredients, pasta, rice, pasatta , tinned and frozen stuff, porridge oats and cheese to use this week's Al**voucher. Also got a sack of spuds from m's which will last us the month and 2 packs of 18 loo rolls from £stretcher for £5. Total spend so far £53.04.
The plan is to use my other Al**voucher to get a month's worth of meat so I will only need three small top up shops for fresh bits to see us through to the end of our 5 week month.
Wish me luck because I do find it hard to avoid temptation:o
Have a good weekend PP xxOriginal mortgage £112,000 . Final payment due August 2027.
Mortgage neutral achieved August 2020 - 7 years early!!!0 -
My main problem is I am not the best at meal planning, often chang my mind about what I eat (must stop doing that), also when it comes to making a meals and freezing left overs for later. I often forget I have done that d'oh. Putting things in containers in the fridge for the next day is fine, and freezing meat to defrost for meals is also fine so will stick with just doing that for now
Meal plan from all day Saturday - all day Friday week after next (as I got tomorrow sorted) is almost finished just want hubby to check it over as he is a bit more fussy about what he eats then me. Fingers crossed I can do this...
Just a quick question - is it weird if I say I hate seeing bear cupboard, I worry if the cupboards get to low on stock we could end up going hungry even though deep down I know that is really not the case.
Sorry for the long first post
Hi, welcome and good luck! Lots of us like to see full cupboards - I am definitely a hoarder too, and there are various theories on the psychology of that! With the meal planning, I also tend to change my mind or not fancy what is on the plan, but it still helps to have a plan, so you can swap around days if you like. Without a plan too often I will think - there is nothing in! And order a take away
With the plan, I can think, ooh I fancy pasta, so we'll have tonight's meal tomorrow instead.0 -
Hi!
Would love to join in on this challenge as money has gone from being tight to pretty much non existant!
We always cook from scratch but unfortunately my oh has a massive food love (even though he's a rake) and he hates to scrimp on meat. I'm getting quite good and cooking meat in chunks rather than as one big piece so he thinks he's getting more than he is! I also try and bulk out mince with lentils but I feel like I need to do more.
So I'd like to try to manage around £30 a week for both of us for food, so in total I reckon £150 for the month for the grocery challenge. No idea if it's possible, or even if that is still too high but hey ho!July Grocery Challenge - £0/£140

Evening All
My first weekly shop of the month, at Ald* because I had the £5 off £40 M*rror coupon, got plenty for my money, a couple of £s extra off also because I used the bonus coupons that were useful to me, so spend of £39.81 (would have been about £47 without my coupons).
I got two M*rrors, so another £5 coupon for next week's shop, although last day for use is Thursday, 2nd May, so will have to go a day early.
Bought myself a nice bit of Brie, will be having that on some crackers once DS and DD are in bed later, yum.
Off to get inspiration from decluttering thread, going to have a bit of a drive on that front this weekend.
Happy Friday to all. Guineapigsqueaks x

Spent yesterday cooking, too much I think, the kitchen was a bomb site and I had to do some serious tetris to get everything in the freezer. Had lasagne (pronounced 'the best ever' by DD) last night and tonight was salad, potato salad and veggie sausages.
NSD for me. Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine!0 -
Just a £3.49 spend for me today on a large pack of ground almonds for an orange cake recipe.
Really impressed with my Clarebarry order - arrived on time and well packed and everything looks lovely, can't wait to sample everything.0 -
Unfortunately I mislaid a couple of receipts in my April challenge, so I gave up on trying to keep track.
Back again for May though. I'm going for £195 as my target again.Debt free since December 2015. It can be done0 -
£86.72 spent so far.
Still got £5 worth of Sainsburys rewards points to use and was able to save on the petrol by buying £60+ of shopping and getting 10p off a litre
Only got a few items left to get and everything should then see us through to the end of the 4 weeks if we play our cards right, which I would be very pleased with.
Bit more cat food
Some Rice
Bit more chicken
Sausages
6 more cartons of UHT milk
