The one thing that everyone says about their insurance is that if you make a major claim (I.e. write off or theft) then they cancel the insurance and keep the outstanding premium whereas other insurers transfer the policy to your new vehicle.
It's one advantage to paying by monthly DD instead of the whole lot up front. I think (but that time is all a bit of a blur) that there was some suggestion from LNE's insurers that someone should keep paying for his policy for the rest of the year after "the accident". I made it very clear that (a) his account had been frozen on death anyway, and (b) a dead bloke doesn't need to pay to insure a written off car, and they wrote some nonsense about making a special case of letting us off paying for the rest of it. Don't know if I'd have got any refund from them if he'd paid the whole lot up front. I suppose I can't blame them for trying, though. At that point they didn't know whose fault it was going to be found to be, and there are going to be big big claims from various interested parties as a result of that accident, as well as what I did get out of them, which was the write-off value of the car and an extra £5k for dying in it, which covered his CC debts.
I may be misremembering, though. It was with the same company that avatar dog was insured with, and they were quite happy to cancel the policy and collect no further monthly DDs when I phoned to say that avatar dog had been put down. Again, whether I'd have got any money back out of them if that had been paid in full upfront is anybody's guess. I think when I wrote my car off a couple of years ago, they suspended the policy until I bought a new one, and then charged me a small fee to reinstate it on the new car.Dunno- just couldn't rememeber if there was a rule about it. We certainly always use links to branded products, just couldn't remember seeing any written down. Probably happens every day!:D
I think there have been some instances where people on MSE have posted mentioning a brand, and hey presto, a company representative appears on the thread offering to sort things out or explaining why they're not as bad as they've been painted, or something. It has given some people a generalised feeling that quoting brands on here gets your comments snooped on, so that's why you'll find many people on the "advice" boards misspelling brand names (to evade search engines) or saying "Mr T" instead of the name of the supermarket they've just been to. Once a few people start doing it (for a reason) then lots of other people start doing it (without knowing why but gathering vaguely that that's what happens around here) and before you know where you are, a reluctance to mention brand names explicitly has become part of the forum culture.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
God I hate that hospital. Posh not square hospital is sorely missed I'm at horrid maze hospital the next three visits.
Anyway, today we were checking a problem we know I have for any developments. There has been a small amount of growth. I want it removed but they won't because 'its the least of my problems' and really no one is going to consider it a valid next step. I said I do and its my body. No one cares what the pilot thinks.
DH is arranging a meeting with the practise manager of the surgery and the pharmacy, hopefully on Friday, about the prescription and pill fiasco. He said last week was the final straw and the answer is not to move or run and hide but to bash heads together until they get it.0 -

So sorry they are not willing to remove whatever-it-is. Having other worse problems doesn't seem to me to be a valid reason for leaving this one untreated unless they think treating it would worsen the others or make them harder to deal with, but in any case they should be listening to you.
Glad to hear about the meeting about the prescription problem. Go foundinrates! With all the stuff you have to deal with in your life, it's a good thing you have him on your side - I'm sure he won't put up with any nonsense from them.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Thanks Lydia.
Which nice ladies haven't started a P thread yet? We need to choose some one for the next one so that when it is time the important task can rest upon their shoulders or safely in their hands or something like that......0 -

We have had thunder rumblings for most of the day with the occasional downpour.
My OH and I have been painting a bedroom today with a colour called Almost Oyster and with the thunder clouds we could hardly see the colour as it is almost the same colour as the lining paper.0 -

I thought we were going to do all the girls then all the chaps to keep things simpler? I'll nominate you for first chap chewy. You can make it a sit in the shed opener. Once everyone has done it this way through girls then chaps maybe next time we do it alphabetically?0 -

Occasional? occasional? You are just round the corner from me and we hardly every get rain round here because you over there get all ours, and here its been heavy I think. I was up north in bath and we had HEAVY rain, (I was watching from the hospital open door) came home and its still heavy. Thunder and lightening.
Its burst through the roof over the new bathroom, in through the open windows in the new bathroom and probably most distressingly has come in through the CLOSED WINDOWS in the room below the new bathroom, As if a hose was pouring in.....the dogs were shut in there and were horrified!0
