The info suggests the track speed limit there was 80km/h and there are quotes that the driver claimed the train was going 190....seems an odd thing to admit immediately afterwards but the level of damage would seem consistent with that sort of speed. One carriage ended up out of the 'cutting' on the road above...
I wonder how he felt whilst he was heading towards that concrete wall at 190 kph? He's rather lucky to have survived, but the guilt he must be feeling. Or is he claiming that the brakes failed, so it wasn't his fault? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Spain has declared "3 days of national mourning". We never get that here... and how does that work? People still have to go to work.
What does "national mourning" mean/encompass precisely?0 -
Parent has rewritten her will, specifying that if anyone puts her in a home they lose their share of any inheritance. If she loses her marbles she wants to be cared for at home with as many carers as required. No consideration on whether this would be practical. Sigh. Probate only just done on late parent, still don't know what it said, they did have matching wills, so I guess they left all to each other.
That's crazy - for all the reasons that bugslet and PN have already explained. Did she have the will drawn up for her by a professional? Did they explain the implications to her? Does she have the faintest idea what 24/7 supervision at home would cost? Under those circumstances what's most likely to happen to her is that decisions about her care will have to be taken by social services, who won't consider her wishes with anything like the individual attention that her family could give to the issue. Unless one of her offspring decides they love her enough to do what she needs despite losing out.
I hope it doesn't come to that point, but if it does, then the best bet (if the offspring get on well with each other) is for them to draw up a contract committing to share the inheritance with each other anyway, then one of them can arrange the care, not get the inheritance, but receive from their siblings when it comes to the death anyway. But it's a mess, and an entirely avoidable mess. :mad:Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

He said "It's just a house. It can be replaced; a life can't."
That's the statement of somebody who owns one and has lost it .... he's renting!

Wonder if the landlord had proper insurance against fire.
Letting's a business. If the landlord wasn't insured against fire, that's his/her problem. The tenant may not have lost a house that he owned, but he's lost all his contents, and his home - we don't know how long he was living there - and that's still a big deal, although not as big a deal as lives.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? So many of these issues are. Personally, if I had children , however much I live and trust DH, my half would be left to them with lifetime interest for him.
I don't think many people don't trust their partners with their kids, and yet their are very many tails of woe with inheritance but most importantly with the feelings of rejection. this sort of hand tying over putting interests of someone you love is a really good example of that and why I want nothing to do with it all.
(DH points out its also a self preservation technique, I am rejecting them before they can reject me the ultimate time:rotfl:). But I've seen how same people who love each other very much can behave and I am less sane and less loving, so I really do want no part of it.0 -
I think these look ok. They don't photograph very well, and of course will look better grouted.0

They still look impossible to keep clean....I think....0 -
But they'll look dramatic with downlighters set close to the wall. That will emphasise the shadows so you don't see the dirt.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Or you could be like me - just don't see dirt. It just doesn't really feature on my radar, so I don't worry about it too much....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
