Poor cow - I remember it being irritating when I was a few days overdue and people kept asking me what was happening - I wanted to shout "NOTHING. OBVIOUSLY. BECAUSE I STILL LOOK LIKE A BEACHED WHALE". Must be far more frustrating for her.

Found when our kids arrived the best thing was to keep the well-wishers away so OH could get some rest. Everybody wants to pop by and say hello, and nobody thinks about how knackered the poor mum feels.

Kate's not going to get much peace from now on.:(

I can confirm that at Macquarie Park they skate anti clockwise.

Bloody good news in the cricket I must say. They are taking it very badly over here.:T:j:beer:

So, the BIG news today is that somebody called Kate has gone into labour. About as exciting as Big Brother. :(
As the Queen's cousin said: "people have babies all the time".

And I loved the Queen's "hope it hurries up, I'm off on holiday".

    :)

Etiquette used to dictate that the mother was confined, with no visitors for two weeks. This was mostly due to keeping germs at bay.

If you ever do any genealogy you'll come across a phrase of "churching". Most people were christened, married, buried at churches - women were churched. It was a blessing service given to them when they did emerge from their houses after the confinement of birth. A blessing as they'd survived/recovered. In the Jewish faith, which many NPs will know about, these women were purified in a similar event. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Churching_of_women

It was also a cleansing, though, from the "impure" state of childbirth. Iffily.

I typed that first, then amended my post as I thought saying that might start a bit of a ruck :)

But yes. Cleansing from the filth in God's eyes that is childbirth.

Ooh, well reminded. Must get my MCG and SCG tickets sorted.

It's great watching the Aussies getting thrashed over here. I was at the SCG to see Cook coming so close to his double century last time around against Michael Beer's comedy spin. His only ball seemed to be the slow one that goes straight on. As for Mitchell 'wide' Johnson. LOL!

As Fred Titmus once said, "There is no more glorious sight than watching English batsmen empty an Australian cricket ground by 5pm!". (I paraphrase).
