The inkjet printer (needed for the iron on party bags) is not working - google suggests the heads are clogged from under use and the fix is...buy a new printer.

This happened to me with more than one colour printer. It doesn't happen any more, since DS started at secondary school, because they keep setting him homework that requires printing in colour.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

    I hate IT

    I really hate IT

So whilst I spent a few hours last night trying to resolve this the whole home network decides to stop working for reasons unclear, have switched back to the old router and finally got first the wireless lan to work and then 1 pc on the wired lan to work - the other 'half' of the wired network is still broken.

I've highlighted the cause of your problems there. ;)
Hamish you have put me off spread for life

After that bald chicken in a net from the other night, can I just say, we're nowhere near even yet. :D

I don't have the money at the moment, but I really like this house. It even has a covered courtyard for me to sit out in the shade...

    Very nice......

I've been keeping half an eye on European property as some places are starting to look like bargains, but annoyingly, anything I'd actually want to own is still going to be far too pricey to make sense for the limited use I'd get out of it.

The idea of owning a holiday place is great. In reality though, for most people, the numbers don't really add up.

I could see it working better for the semi-retired or retired, if you could actually get away enough to use it and enjoy it, could be a lot less expensive than other options.

Mint tea here mostly. Currently drinking TWG loose tea..it is absolutely delicious.

Legacy of Giardia was lactose intolerance for a time which had put me off the earl grey with milk I used to drink.

For coffee I now like espresso but it does have all the ill effects so I try to resist. Last night I had decaff espresso..it tasted of nothing really. For years we used an old metal french percolator which made good coffee and now I think about it I am not sure why we stopped. Probably it was unstylish/out moded.

Friends have a nespresso machine which I find gimmicky.

Drinking de-caffeinated coffee is like trying to get drunk on alcohol-free wine.

Lacto-free milk is now widely available in full fat/semi/ skimmed. It also tastes exactly like milk.

They can do if you let it out when you aren't there.

    Yes that's true of course.

I've always wondered how much or little hassle that would be in reality, some people seem to have a good experience, others not so much.

I have a large extended family who would use and a husband who works for an airline. Most of the people where he works have second homes, one as far afield as Australia! It's something we're looking to for the future. No real interest in letting out, it's ours and I don't really like the idea of strangers in it, though plenty of people interested in sharing.

Years ago, we were very early buyers in something called the Disney Vacation Club, which is an upmarket timeshare run by Disney. We could sell our timeshare even now for more than we paid for it and that would make a nice deposit on something closer to home.

I saw something on the telly where somebody told you how to make cucumber sandwiches properly. From memory, I think you're supposed to spread the slices out and sprinkle with salt, then leave for half an hour or so, then wash off the salt and dab the cucumber dry with paper towels.

Sounds a lot of faff and room required for a sandwich.

I've always fancied a beach hut, but even picking the cheapest one, which would be on a stoney beach and a couple of rows back from the beach, without a view, it'd cost £20k. But, beyond the cost, it's the ongoing cost that's too much.... you can pretty much write off £1500-2000 per year in rent on the space, then £500 'council tax' ..... and it's just a shed, no water or electric. And there are "transfer fees" to pay too, which aren't often openly mentioned.

Some areas have cheaper ones, but that's places like Suffolk etc where houses and huts are cheap as chips.

I'd like a beach hut half a mile from my house, but I can't afford a house that's "OK" closer than 3 miles from the beach and that beach doesn't have huts. If you have to drive, then you have to add on a £7/day parking charge, which is why it'd be ideal to be close enough to walk.

Would you ever consider moving to the east coast? In a few years perhaps when ties are different? Didn't know if being close to Cambridge again would appeal. And Sue of course...
