We go between windows shut to avoid pollen entering the house and windows wide open to catch a breeze. No middle ground.

Can you pin a damp sheet infront of open windows to get a cooling breeze and block out most of the pollen ?

Finance discussion with DS1 yesterday. More a general survey of how much money is going between his mates and their parents or the other way round. They seem to go from one extreme to the other. Some are being funded to sit around all day/ find themselves/ have yet another year off/ write. Others are having to pay rent to live at home.

I am incredulous at both extremes, that parents who are very liberal minded with large London homes are then paying their son's rents to live just a few miles away from them, when they could easily live at home with no restrictions. On the hand there are parents who charge their kids rent, I'm not talking about covering the extra costs of living in the family home, but contributing to the rent too.

    No, I can understand that.

Hmm. Plasterwork just either side of the window frames? :D

Or buy a fan and a bowl of ice?

I don't know what the temperature is upstairs in our place, but it's hot enough to be sitting completely still, wearing the lightest of clothing, and be sweating. So I guess mid 30s, indoors?

I'm sitting still, not wearing heavy clothing and I'm sweating, so yep!

Loving the internship. Can't go into too many specifics, obviously, but when I've finished I will a bit.

The woman I'm working under is fantastic, brimming with enthusiasm, similar sort of background to me. She's very keen that I enjoy it and get a lot out of it, so it's great. Certainly not just photocopying and filing :) Been there three days, and already I've got loads I could talk about at interviews in terms of projects I'm involved in, meetings attended and the like.

Feel more positive about my career now than I ever have I reckon!

    1) I suspect if I'd ever had such a conversation with my parents, depending on my circumstances at the time I might have been 'selective with the truth'

    2) I don't know for sure but I can imagine I might start charging my DKs rent regardless of any personal need for the money if I felt it was time for them to learn about how life really works if they looked like they thought they were on to a cushy number living at home rent free with a high disposable income?
    I think....

It's strange, it was quite cloudy earlier and there is a breeze moving the trees in the park and with the AC in here it was easy to imagine that you would need a sweater or coat to go out.
    I think....
