I always paid rent... didn't get any house help
And other kids just don't want any chance of the debt being levied over them forever.0 -
1) I suspect if I'd ever had such a conversation with my parents, depending on my circumstances at the time I might have been 'selective with the truth'
No need for selective reporting. We are very clear on what further support they are getting.2) I don't know for sure but I can imagine I might start charging my DKs rent regardless of any personal need for the money if I felt it was time for them to learn about how life really works if they looked like they thought they were on to a cushy number living at home rent free with a high disposable income?
I totally understand that people on tight budgets need to require their adult offspring to pay the extra costs of having them live at home.
If they were on a cushy number, so what? At some point they will flee the nest.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. My great times over uncle in his hundreds had two kids living at home. He'd out lived all the other kids

You've lost me here?
I am incredulous at both extremes, that parents who are very liberal minded with large London homes are then paying their son's rents to live just a few miles away from them, when they could easily live at home with no restrictions.
My parents did exactly that, I'm afraid. They lived in Blackheath, and I went to UCL and was in halls of residence in Camden....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
As another in the ongoing series of "is it wrong that"....
Is it wrong that I'm listening to French rap artists today, and enjoying it?“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

For some children living at home it makes sense to pay a fair contribution so that's the 'we gave you free board and lodging' cannot be held over one's head forever.
I can imagine it would lose you ndg:D your family sound so lovely.0 -

Ah! Sorry.
The most my parents say in that regard is if one of us says something half-witted, and my Dad says, "I see we didn't waste all that money on your expensive education....."...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Hello. My term is over. I'm sorry I've been away so long.
I am now working through the posts that have been made since I was last here. It may take me some time. I may post irrelevant replies to things that happened aeons ago. If so, please forgive me...lostinrates wrote: »My lovely friend might be about to leave her horrid bf. dh was very cross with her telling her she needed to accept that she deserved to be cherished and she was assuring me there were no nice men left (i feel thats never a reason to stay anyway, but pther people have dofferent reasonings) and I was thinking about you among other people and telling her there really were nice men......
Absolutely. Much better to be single than with a nasty and/or abusive bf (or gf natch), IMO.... this rubbish "leasehold" system (that nobody else in the world uses apart from Wales and Hawaii apparently)
And Ireland, although they're trying to get rid of it.lostinrates wrote: »Dh had to go to a refreshed talk about equality quality in the work place because he did that. He said had he known he was going to be ticked off he might have been less nice and tries to

They go to the talk every two years unless they are inadvertently polite in between times.
I hold doors open for all sorts of people of various ages and sexes. Would I have to go?Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

I have no concept whatsoever about what'd happen in such a talk..... no idea. Clueless.
Did anyone post this clip in response to this? The best bit is between 1:30 and 1:50.Do you know anyone who's bereaved?
