Not knowing doesn't stop things happening!
Trust me, being alone and single is much better than feeling like you're sponsoring someone else's lifestyle
On which note, I went out (alone) to see some comedy tonight. Henning Wehn (German comic who has started popping up on panel shows like 8 out of 10 cats), was a much welcome laugh after a tense end of the week. I just hope everyone has their 'game faces' on early next week, as we have collaborators visiting. Its definitely not right, when I'm the one trying to be the grown up!0 -

Eye test for £10.
If you needed glasses you would know, generally speaking. If you had an eye problem that needed eye drops or some other medication, you wouldn't know. That is why you need an eye test.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. PasturesNew wrote: »I liked the recent "advice" from the Govt about eating less meat.
Annually I will have some turkey on Xmas day, 3 packs of sausages, 3 pizzas with some spicy beef/chicken on, 1 chicken curry ready meal and maybe a pack of mince/meatballs. Bit hard to cut down from that.
Not sure they meant processed meat... think even that is probably over the 'limit' for that!PasturesNew wrote: »This whole "5 a day" lark...
I was surprised to discover I'd had 3 yesterday .... I had 7 cherry tomatoes, 1 banana and some chocolate covered raisins!
As GBD said, not convinced that the chocolate covered raisins make the grade!
But anyway, I'm sure I remember hearing that the '5' a day thing is nonsense - they just picked 5 as it is more than most people eat.0 -

Not half as stretched if budget would be if covering the costs of living with visual impairment.0 -

I can't keep up with you lot!
In Aus we have 7 a day: 2 fruit and 5 veg but potatoes count. The best nutritional advice I've heard is: "Eat mostly plants, not too much".
I bought the best passion fruit I think I've ever had. $2.50 for 10 and they are unbelievably good, just amazing. If you could marry a fruit I'd be speaking to a divorce lawyer. Yummmmm. I'll be buying another bag tomorrow.PasturesNew wrote: »I've got a scale.... but I'd not go out and buy food, then come home to weigh it all, to see how much 80grams was so I could do a 5-a-day. Too much hard work.
The receipt tells you how much weight of stuff you've bought.
If it is just 80g in a portion, a simple pasta sauce made from a tin of tomatoes, an onion and a red pepper would contain 9 portions of veg. Cost according to the Tesco website:
Tomatoes 31p
Red pepper 80p
Onion 17p
Spaghetti 19p
Total cost = £1.47 plus a drop of oil and some salt + pepper. That'll probably do 3 meals so 49p/meal with enough spaghetti left in the packet to do it all again. If it were me I'd add some bacon or some chilli or some basil sometimes to make it a bit more interesting. That adds to the cost of course. It's just as good cold as it is hot too.
Eating that meal and having a jacket potato with beans and cheese would give you all the veg you need in a day at minimum cost.0 -

Nope, because the sub message to the 'five a day' is ( or was) each veg/ fruit can only count twice...( nodding to eat a rainbow, or at least variety). It would however count as six.0 -

Fair enough. A handful of frozen peas could be added at minimal cost though or a leak as well as the onion.
My opinion is that you're probably better off eating 3 tomatoes than a Mars Bar.0
