Not sure that chocolate covered raisins *ought* to count, really.
When I researched it, NHS told me that a portion is 80 grams. The WWW told me that in Australia it's 75 grams. Anyway, portions are not that huge, so it's doable.
It's easily doable IMO. Especially if you replace starchy carbs with veg.
I think the 'eating a rainbow' is the harder thing, especially over a day rather than a week and especially if single or a very small household.0 -
Rainbow, hmmm?
Some of the colours are harder to do than others. So far, I've had two Braeburn apples (reddish, I guess), plus a banana. I'll have some beans later, so that's green taken care of. But purple will be a problem. And how about blue? Blueberries are only called that. They are really closer to black. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

The theory is different colours have different nutrients, so your veg should be a mixture of. Purples and blues (blue berries, blackberries purple sprouting broc) reds (tomato, red berries, red peppers) oranges (squash, orange peppers, carrots) yellow (yellow fleshed melons, yellow peppers,) green (the easiest!) and so on.
The other thing to consider is the sugar content.. So generally (but not always) veg is 'better' than fruit ..and five fruits a day are not as good as three or four veg and 1 or two fruits) and fruit grown furthest from the equator is 'better' and then there is Gi......
It can set the mind spinning and ultimately is more confusing than beneficial, The simpler, eat lots of veg, and least cr4p from packets is probably the best message to drive home IMO.
I do very strongly believe in controlling health through diet...just not always the ones people think. We generally find, for example, our dogs that have been fed mainly raw food have lived longer and been healthier. This is very unscientific approach, and I wouldn't swear to it nor recommend it just say that it suits ours best in our experience. Similarly, I have never had a standard case of colic in horses, ever. I attribute this to the way I feed and manage them and its very simple and basic.0 -
Which thread was it that said all the nutritional advice for long life boils down to
Eat every day.
But not so much.
And mainly plants.
Actually I'm imagining what it would be like if these would-be Martian colonists found they couldn't grow chillies.

Weights are meaningless to people, need to SEE what food counts. Photos of them all.0 -
I liked the recent "advice" from the Govt about eating less meat.
Annually I will have some turkey on Xmas day, 3 packs of sausages, 3 pizzas with some spicy beef/chicken on, 1 chicken curry ready meal and maybe a pack of mince/meatballs. Bit hard to cut down from that.0 -
Dogs have family;), cats have staff. Mind you even the most loved of family don't follow you to the loo just in case there is a recently built secret door for you to escape from.
Small children definitely do follow you to the loo!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

We have an electronic scale that measures in grams. About £8 iirc.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
We have a big ugly tv I hate. It's the size of a fiat 500 or something and heavier.
Anyway, we are furniture shuffling for the nice builder again this weekend and had to move the massive tv and dh said.....I never, ever want to move this again and yet its the tv that gets moved most often.
I'm off out to Argos.
Now we have a new smaller very light tv (hurrah) but cannot decide what to do with the very big old one. The Study or Free to collect?0 -
