There's a cat here that I;d like to call over and stroke, but it's a bit of a nuisance at the neighbours as I always see it climbing all over their roof and fence, turning their security light on a lot .... and I know if I encouraged it it'd be coming over and letting itself in if I left the patio door open .... and I just want a "cat on demand" that'll come over when |I fancy stroking a cat and s0d off when I don't. The sort that'd sit outside the patio door and never be curious enough to enter.

But I know this one'd be trouble, so I can't encourage it, cute as it is.

Cats please themselves, in general, rather than people, I reckon.

I think dogs have owners (that's us)
and cats have staff (you've guessed who that is too).;)

I see the NPs have esteemed guests in their midst what with the Bilderberg group coming to conspire against their illuminati rivals or whatever-it-is they get up to in their secret huddles.;)

Nothing should be read in to the fact that that is where we had our last company away day...
    I think....

Dogs have family;), cats have staff. Mind you even the most loved of family don't follow you to the loo just in case there is a recently built secret door for you to escape from.

Nikkster, if it's of any interest, Icould never get on with the 5:2 diet, though I found the fast 5 diet far easier, and it's has a free downloadable book

If you Google for it, you will find that that has been done. There seem to be a number of Arduino projects for it.

In practice, there is often a delay in texts being transmitted onwards to the end recipient, by which time the visitor either has been savaged by the dogs or has left.

There are wireless doorbells you can carry around with you.

Clever idea, but I don't need anything that fancy. A loud bell in the vicinity of the stairs is all I need, as long as it carries on working for a decent length of time instead of dying after a few days. Nothing wireless is going to work - wireless signals don't go through metal very well, and the front door is shielded by the cooker from anywhere I might want to put the bell. I'm sure a wired system is the way to go, and have no idea why the three most recently installed wired systems have each failed completely within a week of being put in. Will post updates as and when I have any.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I fell asleep shortly after 3am. When I woke up I got up and pottered about ... brushed my teeth ,... sat down .... and realised it was 5.20am. And, as it was raining I just "rested my eyes" for a moment .... and only just woke up again :)

    Thunderstorm and it's raining.

This whole "5 a day" lark - they've always hidden what a "5" is, so you had to really go looking for it. Well, last night, about 2am, I did go looking for it - and it's not too unachievable. e.g. I had no idea that "1 of the 5 a day" could simply be a tablespoon of dried fruit. I always thought it was "5 portions" and took that to mean the sort of portion of things I'd put on a plate. So I'd imagined that 5 a day would have been HUGE.

I was surprised to discover I'd had 3 yesterday .... I had 7 cherry tomatoes, 1 banana and some chocolate covered raisins!

Not sure that chocolate covered raisins *ought* to count, really.

When I researched it, NHS told me that a portion is 80 grams. The WWW told me that in Australia it's 75 grams. Anyway, portions are not that huge, so it's doable.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
