Par boil potatoes for 5 minutes.
fish in the oven takes 20 minutes. Personally I would cover the fish to stop it drying out.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. No idea where my dad was, he was doing national service on that date and I can't ask him now as he's not with us.
Not bothered.... it's just bereavement makes you think daft things like that. All the times you wish you'd listened and all the questions you never asked (important and unimportant).
Mind you, you never got a straight answer to any questions about the past if you even asked them.
Did you not hear about your parents' and grandparents' childhoods, when they left school, started work, etc?
My Dad doesn't remember it (he'd have been 3) but my mother does - my Granny was a dressmaker, and had made her a new dress in red, white and blue that my mother adored. My mother was 5 at the time of the coronation.
My Dad does remember the arrival of the first TV in his street, and that was bought for hte coronation, but the TV is the only bit that stuck.HELPPPP, please!!!!
After years of denigrating my cooking, my wife has delegated me to cook dinner tonight. It needs to be cod fillets - actually 'cod loins' on the packet. What do the NPs think I should I do with these? (I did think of binning them and making reservations.)
The great thing about cod is that it tastes best if not mucked about with, and should be cooked simply.
My mother cooks it by making a mixture of a handful of breadcrumbs, and the same quantity of mixed, chopped herbs, such as chives and parsley. Mix breadcrumbs and herbs together with a couple of teaspoons of olive oil and a well-chopped or crushed clove of garlic and a bit of pepper. Then you just coat the fish with it, put it on a baking sheet, and cook for about 15 minutes max at 180 C (fan oven, bit more if you don't use a fan oven). Serve with new spuds, and peas / broccoli / fresh spinach....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Have spent large portions of today pre-weeding in the garden (it is what happens when your weeds are so large you can't even see the proper plants. This year has been a killer for gardening).
Is anyone else having a nightmare gardening year? Can't only be us.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

Big weeds yes.
By favourite aquelegia is dying and I cannot work out why....
Greenfly bonanza, and very few pollinators, and haven't seen a lady bird yet for those ruddy green fly.
Everything very late. First roses opened today. We have loads of buds, so it should look good when things do open....(unless the green fly keep munching) but its getting boring waiting.
I looked ahead for some days for dh to take off and the long term forecast for after the next fortnight was less positive. Lets hope the odds improve closer to him getting time off:)0 -
We only have weeds, but some of them are very nice weeds. I work on the principle that if it self-seeds in that spot then it must be suitable. Then I decide whether I like it or not.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Weeds are only plants in the wrong place, so its a good principle..
This year however, also seems to be a stinker for bindweed. The new bed we have started was clear, but its now cropping up all over the place. Dh bought some of that gel you apply on the leaves. I snorted but I hope it proves me wrong!0 -
Thanks, LIR, that sounds perfect. I like capers too. We've got those, but I'll check whether we have the potatoes and cherry tomatoes. Do you want to pop over and share dinner?
Don't fall for it, lir. The next bit is something along the lines of 'If you can just show me how to do that...' and before you know it, you'll have cooked the whole meal0 -

Either option iOS so easy I would have gladly cooked. And left them to eat a romantic supper while I nipped up to have a BATH:rotfl:
Nice builder is in next week to do some snagging and also to rip out the 'third bedroom' for investigatory works to see what the bathroom is gonna cost us. It will be exciting to make another r big destructive change.. Shame to lose the spare room. We'll have to organise downstairs better so that the sofa bed is no longer in the kitchen but in what we have used until now as a dining room, and will be a second sitting room. Then the dining room stuff has to go into the concrete floored messy old 'garden room' where the dogs sleep.

I see your Macputer is bigging itself up again
I would love to ask DooozerGal a 'how much does it cost to build a house?' question fairly urgently - are you in touch with her?I think....0 -
I went to the doctor yesterday. She didn't know what was wrong with me, but now I have to go and have some tests. My blood pressure has gone ballistic, from 110/55 about six months ago to 145/100 or something. She looked about 21 and didn't really seem to know what she was doing, but on the plus side she was ginger (which may explain the blood pressure increase).0
