I knew that program would put me in a bad mood, so I avoided it.

That's a great idea - its a while since I've been at school :), but if they use powerpoint/ something similar could he ask for a copy of the notes to annotate rather than having to take his own notes?

The more useful part of my post - all the best, Lydia. Must be really frustrating being set lower than your true ability, just because the way you process/ output the information is different to the majority.

Thanks. Our school has a policy that anything we do on the smartboard (aka electronic whiteboard) is supposed to be saved to the VLE ("virtual learning environment" - it means the school's intranet, which is viewable online from home with a password). I've recently told some of my own dyslexic students that if they don't want to write down what I put on the board, they're welcome to print it out from the VLE and file it that way. I'll be making more of a point of suggesting that at the beginning of the year with my new classes in September.

Each area has to produce a special needs inclusion statement under the special educational needs and disabilities act 2001, and IMHO asking for a copy of that is a good place to start.

Ooh tomterm, what a great idea! All their policies are on their website. I'm off to read it now....
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I'm in a grumpy mood because every serious program I try to watch has piano man, a guy who knows two musical notes and gets paid a fortune to repeat them over and over and over until Iturn thd sound off and put the subtitles on.

But that's how we know it's serious... innit?

It does puzzle me the places that news reporters/ documentary makers get to go to (don't get me started on Brian Cox and his biology programme). On the other hand, I did also look up the the subject of Panorama (as I thought that was what had offended you, missk), and I have no idea how the 'Dr.' in charge of that clinic still has a licence to practice medicine. No idea at all.

I saw it. This isn't going to sound right but I can understand the parents desire to do it. The average life expectancy for certain brain tumours is about 18 months and the best drugs may add 2-3 months. When everyone tells you they've got nothing, and somebody says they've got something but it's not proven we'd be listening in that situation (and between us we've got more degrees than a thermometer).

At the end of the day if they haven't bought time the parents will have bought the knowledge that they'd tried absolutely everything including whatever the snake oil is. They'd never have the fear at the back of their mind that there might have been more they could have tried.

I can completely understand the want to 'try anything', and am all for research. But not giving people false hope with something completely unproven and charging a large amount of money for it. That is just wrong. I.e. should add that that opinion was based on a quick google, not any specific knowledge. I would rather spend my last weeks/ days in the company of those who love me, not have them trying to raise thousands to send me for some completely unproven (and I'm not talking about a first in man legit clinical trial) potion.

    Aussie residential architecture

Can best be described as "disposable".

I don't understand it myself at all.

But they usually seem to expect to knock down and rebuild the houses every 50-100 years.

A bit of an attitude adjustment for someone like me who thinks of anything built after 1850 as a "new build".
