I think it is lovely that you forgot hat purchasing because you were excited that you and Mr Spirit might be on the same train :)

Although typing that - do you think it was a tactic to divert you from shopping? :rotfl:

I hadn't mentioned it. It was going to be a surprise.

He was in London for dental xrays ...would have paid for a couple of hats.

After the xrays he went across to see an agency he deals with..and for lunch had a delicious sounding wrap with one of them bought in from Borough Market.

I meanwhile had a selection of truly nasty sandwiches to choose from. This was a working lunch. I am not sure how they manage it but the sandwiches are bought in and they all taste of a special sour flavoured mushy dressing . It is a sort of ' sauce' with the look of sandwich spread and the taste of watery vomit. It is in every work provided sandwich I have ever had, except tuna ones.

I was thinking it was lovely too. Glad it's not just me going gooey for spirit and her dh meeting on the train. :)

As i walked along the platform with my eyes peeled (as I was not certain of our meeting arrangements) I spotted ahead an older grey haired man who reminded me of my late father-in-law.

No prizes for guessing who it was:o

I was looking for a dark haired man about 15 years younger. On telling my beloved, I asked him does he think of me as 'now' or as a cute brunette? He gave an answer worthy of Henry Kissinger.

Did you get sloes last year? Or are these better steeped? Most of our hedge is blackthorn and we had a lot the precious winters p, but last year we had almost none.

We got almost none. From a section one particular hedge in 2011, my mother, Isaac and I picked 120lb of sloes in 2.5 hours, it was a fantastic year. Last year, Isaac and I picked 6lb from the whole hedge in a couple of hours before we got fed up.

These are from those 6lb, which I left with my mother for her gin, and grabbed once the gin was drained at Easter.
I've never had sloe gin. I heard about it about 30 years ago, when somebody I worked with said they made it. But, it's like all the other things - I am not going to be spending time/money/effort attempting to make something in case I don't like it. Also, if you've never had it, you don't know if what you made is [a] close to what it's supposed to be like horrible and wrong.

Sloe gin's one of those things I think you make because your Mum / Granny / Auntie did, and show you how. So if your Mum etc didn't, you don't.

I've never had sloe gin. It does worry me, NDG feeding alcohol to 8 year olds.

Don't worry, I'm not. These are clearly marked, and the sale is at chucking out time, and they will only go to parents. There's probably very little alcohol in them anyway, as the chocolate's temperature means most will have burned off.

I am not much of a gin gal, but you can buy slow gin. Next time we meet up remind me to get you some, I think Mole Valley (the agricultural merchants ) even sell some. Remind me and I'll bring you some. I'll forget , so don't feel cheeky asking, I will remember I told you to when you have reminded me.

You can't buy it, LIR! It's the ultimate, only-home-made thang. No purchases allowed.....

DD's prep school was boarding with a smaller number of day girls so there were no adhoc sales.

OH was for a time on the PTA and then chair for a couple of years . PTA responsibilities included organising a summer fete and a fundraising ball.

Fetes were always fab..loverrly setting, lots of old fashioned stalls and despite days of worry, lucky with the weather. Great music usually provided by a bunch of dads creating a band for the day. Happy days.
    .

    Fetes must involve cakes, surely?

    Awful, absolutely awful.

Why do we give publicity to these people?

It's all wrong. Not just the attack but the news coverage. :(

They're getting all the oxygen of publicity they could want.

My mate told me some idiot on the TV asked the police if a warning had been shouted before they were shot!

In those circumstances you shoot first and worry about it later. Beggur what the law says.

The kiwi certainly has a lot to say. He has become quite a barker. Somewhat annoyingly.

When I was a child we had a generation of mute dogs. I miss that somewhat.[/QUOTE]

Never get spitz then. Finnish spitz are used in hunting and head off to the relevant tree and bark to indicate the whereabouts of a bird. They compete to be King of the Barkers. Mine are German Spitz, but they obviously need to prove some Spitz solidarity thing.

When I visited New Orleans they were sold as a common street snack but fried in batter and in a french stick (called a po'boy sanwich)

I've always wondered what po'boy was - thanks!

Aaaaah! Whilst Mr Bugs generally talks complete and disjointed rubbish, if I ask him if he still loves me, he always smiles and says more than ever.

I had a spider that was larger than my hand in a cereal box once.

    .

I think that may partially explain why two friends have just come back to the UK from OZ. I can cope with money spiders, after that, it's a lot of faffing with bits of cardboard and a upturned glass.

When I was about 8, possibly earlier, we went for Sunday lunch once a month and I always had half a guiness shandy. I suspect the lemonade was the dominant feature.

My supper tonight: smoked oysters, glass of wine. It can go on the list of not healthy meals with some of Pasture's nights, huh?:D

I love smoked oysters, and it feels a bit like having canap!s on my lonesome.

My tea last night was a packet of breaded ham!

The boys obviously had a proper dinner......
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    ?

    Depends......

My mother is not english. We have other home steeped liquors as home, not so much sloe gin. Having suffered various awful home steeps ( inc sloe gin) I feel it very much can be bought rather than suffered!

Re alcohol and chocolate...if its labelled then no issue to me. As a very little kid one of my treats was finishing the left over port in glasses from dinner party tables. I wonder a bit at that tbh, not just the alcohol, but the communicable illnesses from glasses. I loved trifle....a rarity in our house but definitely more sherry with stuff than trifle with sherry, and was almost always allowed just a sip or two from a parents glass of wine.
