I told myself that a lot. That and 'just keep swimming' (like Dory in Finding Nemo).

You know that they did find Nemo?

I went to a zoo once, in 1968. Whipsnade. I can still remember going and there are photos of me sitting beside a cute/furry animal. I was looking at it the other day and thought "bet that's behind bars now/not allowed out because modern people are mean"

    ...

I recall (& posted about) issues I had with previous employer. Possibly the worst 18 months of my life (bereavements aside). Mainly because it was continuous nastiness. No ups & downs, but persistent unrelenting nastiness. I could've run away from it. Principles prevented me, & with hindsight, although it was horrible, I'm relieved I did what I did.
However it has changed so much of my outlook on life. So many priorities have changed now.

I think Pastures was so spot on with some comments she made. We've had terrible weather for pretty much 22 solid months now. Weather significantly affects our mood, as well as freeing us up & giving us options/the will to get out there.

Add to that the general malaise of the country (turn the telly on & the news blurts "war, aids famine, death, depression recession) non stop at you. Everyone is miserable, which creates a culture of unhappiness. it has almost become a social norm for the nation for 4+ years now.

Add to that the issues you listed (which are very personal, and therefore feel more "real" to you) makes it feel unmanagable. It feels/looks like there's so much going wrong, that you can't see how to cope with it.

In a way, tomterm is correct. (His comment reminded me of this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCUQs-L883k - I love James lyrics!) Break the issues down into component parts, & you'll start overcoming them. All of a sudden, you'll realise that you've overcome several things, the sun will come out one day, & hopefully there'll be a little burst of acheivements (eg round the house).

I was talking about the kind of issues you mention with a friend the other day. I'm struggling to help him - he's undergoing chemical supported withdrawal from alcohol dependency. It has been real hard trying to support him through it. Godknows what he's going through! But there is a vision, a reason why he's going through the agonies he's currently experiencing. He knows why the drinking has to stop. I hope he gets there. I hope you do too LIR.
    Thanks.

Personally, I am fairly convinced that unless I get worse and actually think I am cracked instead of in danger of cracking, I am not interested in talking therapies. Been there, done that. Not my bag.

Agreed. I've had counselling. I've been managed by a counsellor. I've had counselling training. I found it to be such an immense pile of guff I couldn't believe it.

What is amazing is meeting numerous people who want to be counsellors. Selecting the most inappropriate vocation ever in my experience.

Good news that it was a negative! I do now understand your aversion to the marker pen idea. I wouldn't want to stick one there either:o

Just finished a decorating project I wished I hadn't started. More to the point, I should have started a day earlier, but idiots prevented me from doing so by gross inconsideration. As a result a fairly straightforward weekend task has ended up taking almost 4 days.

This weather is starting to grate too - hardly spent any time in the garden.

I really hope we have a decent summer. Employer has really messed us about at work, to the extent that bank hols aside I haven't had a day off since christmas. I'm bushwacked. & can't see much scope for time off before July.

Lemonjelly, now I feel I have to say I am not a drinker, and never go anywhere where the only thing served is water anymore, and if I did would be having my water only.

Oh, but agree about those 'called' to counselling. Some friends have mentioned it to me as something I could do, and both dh and I have laughed till we cried at the idea.

I've said in the past I'm pretty much teetotal. I think the last drink I had was christmas 2011. I honestly can't recall.

I guess that's why he's dropped here to do the detox. Not a single drop anywhere to be seen here. No chance of temptation whatsoever. Also, no drinking style activities occurring, no such chat, and importantly, no judgement.

For the concerned. I have just been talking to dh. It's too late to stop the vetting, but if after that we'll see how I feel.
