I'd still need to drive to Southampton and pay for parking .... it's still a bit of a trek. I'd not want to take your money, but thank you.

The train goes through Brock you could park and get on there..( not so much driving) I could get on the same train at a later station.

Happy to contribute to a kitty.

I used to do London for the night out from Oxford, which is only an hour further east than where I am now. But then nights out were a much more frequent part of my life in those days.

Yes. Other way round for us really, we did Oxford from London more, cause dh was in London by then, when I was in the armpit I did Oxford at night a bit to meet friends. We liked the idea here of being nearer to Oxford for stuff here. I think we have only done it from here once though. We missed dh's mothers birthday which we usually try and be in Oxford for. (Ostensibly to look at her ashes or something, but actually we pick mulberries to take home to cook with and meet friends for drinks/meals). Dh goes to a couple of college things each year if he can, but a its worked out, from London, not here)

Mind you, lots of our friends, have moved to south London....this, like north London used to be, is a bit 'where?' To me.

The idea of me aiming to be more mobile is not to discover the joys of south London, but rather for us to meet somewhere nice and [STRIKE]civilised[/STRIKE] central.

But you did choose to live there, based on the fact FIR works in London, so your location choice was biased to start with. Therefore it's natural you will find the transport direct as that was a criteria for your location IYSWIM.

Sure...but we were looking across a wide area. :). You're right though, this is an excellent commuting location! But so was our last..

Links to London are ok from most places....sure there are changes etc but think, for example, of the route poor miss kook had o take to get here! Ther pe is no need for the little places o join up but ther pe is perceived need for all of us to be able to get to the big place...

Edit.....have you considered boat then train north, lol)

No, we don't have a horse box. And it will not fit in the car. I don't think. I might try and borrow parents car, as its more reliable. I don't fancy hiring a van tbh. I'd rather have someone move it for us.

These people are in Salisbury. That's closer to you than Essex, surely? Do you think they actually have one to view?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Is it nuts to sharpie pen an x? Or could it simply be eccentric?

The manufacturers said no, but I will call and check, thank you! That would be much easier. Spirit, PN, want to meet me to sit in a bath tub if they have it?:D

That bath is big enough for 3 people? I'm beginning to see another side to your personality that I had not expected ....

I know a dull NP who wouldn't even think of the fuel cost/time to drive and talk utter b0ll0x at the drop of a hat for you if you need it.

What you're feeling is "quite normal" for many - this utterly awful weather's dragging on and on .... and the lovely sun's not there to tease us out to feel good.

So, while you may be feeling in a low mood, don't fear it's "all you" - it's the weather driving most to similar feelings too.... and you've just got the extra stuff....

Probably said the wrong thing/s there as I am not gifted in the art of making people feel better :)

No , said just the right thing. Smiley tears :o. Thank you.

And the matter of the sharpie pen?:D
