Interesting that women NPs are cautious about revealing names, emails etc to a random oddball, but the male NPs are probably thinking that a random oddball appearing will not do much harm. Or maybe it is just that us perceptive women recognise an oddball when we see one and men think that everyone is a bit odd in their own way.

Walking into a strange pub to meet people I've never met before is way out of my comfort zone. Enjoy yourselves!

I rarely know everyone in a pub/bar/restaurant I go into!:D. Most of them I have never met before.

Silver, if you would ever like a smaller meet up, maybe you should invite a couple of people you think you might feel comfortable. I do suggest a public place though, even if not a pub :D. I wouldn't have had people to my home were certain safeguards not in place.

Or the men who frequent this thread are all oddballs.

Same! And I'm so popular and busy that I won't be able to make it, obviously.

I'm afraid that my decision not to go to London isn't about fear at all ... it's about time/cost really (and an amount of "I don't know what might be happening workwise and at the other end of the country that needs attending to").

Picking a random Wednesday in July, the train alone would take £47 and be a return journey time of 6 hours' train, an hour's walking and some underground time - it'd be an 8 hour return journey for half a cider. Then there's the underground, food, drink. And, the train journey involves 3 changes.

Compare that to a 3 hour round trip drive to meet more local NPs, at a day cost of £20 :)

Travel is uber expensive and difficult.

When my wife goes to visit clients at home, she has to phone her office before going in, and again after leaving. They also have a special code that sounds like routine administration but means send the Police NOW!

I'll fit in, but I was looking forward to trying the India Club. It has such mixed reviews - you either love it or loathe it, it seems.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Could you not drive to somewhere like Southampton parkway, train from there is only 1 hr to Waterloo and it might be we then meet close to Waterloo as well so no tube.

Also if we are doing a kitty we could make an adjustment for travel costs as mine is zero it would only be fair if I put in more.

St James Park certainly get's my vote as a suitable venue. LIR it wil be a real shame if you can't make it bt obviously you have a job to do - what if it were a Friday evening and you could travel home with FIR?

SC perhaps you should do coffee with a single NP first - I would recomend Viva who is either the sanest, most sensible person I know or a serial killer with an absolutely first class alter ego.
    I think....

Charming! Give as good as you get, but think about it first. Never reply to a group email in anger.

Rather than reply, I am aware that politically I need to tread very carefully. The person who did it is highly thought of (no idea why) by people with power.

Instead I've taken it up with my manager, expressing concern that it is:
    a) unprofessional
    b) over-reaching professional boundaries
    c) inappropriate
    d) borderline negligent as it is giving out incorrect information to people.

I've also pointed out that there is a deeper underlying problem that causes people to act this way (effectively people are panicking because something is being rushed now that should've been done 9 months ago. A year ago, I was asked for advice. I stated the work had to be done within 3-5 months. I was ignored...)

The problem is, I am worried that the person who should be acting on this will be more focussed on their own career than doing the right thing. Whilst they are making the right noises, I do not know for certain that appropriate action is being taken (as they will fear speaking up reflects badly on them). There is previous evidence of things being said but not done that have caused trust issues.

    Time will tell...
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

A stranger is just a friend you haven't met.:)

    .

I've worked in several places with a variety of these kinds of codes. Standard practise in certain lines of work.

There's the Anchor and Hope on The Cut near Waterloo which is a great pub. Ace food too.

There's The Fire Station, pretty much next door to Waterloo which is of variable quality. It used to be great but was less so on my last visit but that was 5 years ago.

All Bar One (Slug and Lettuce? one of those) over by County Hall is ok. A MacPub really but not so bad for all that.

I can't do a Friday or weekend. That shouldn't stop you all if that's all you can do. This isn't my meetup.

I'd still need to drive to Southampton and pay for parking .... it's still a bit of a trek. I'd not want to take your money, but thank you.
