Nice people thread part 8 - worth the wait

I watched the Denmark video. Quite a nice tune, but they ran out of lyrics after writing the first verse and just repeated pretty much the same words endlessly - plus she keeps singing 'only teardrops' with a big smile on her face, which seems ridiculously incongruous.
That's the best?Besides which, "only teardrops" is hardly an answer to all those questions beginning "how many times?", and her dress reminds me of our recent discussion about CK wearing a towel. She probably has quite a decent figure underneath it, but IMO it does nothing for her. I liked the penny whistle, or whatever it was, though.
All the bookies (and I mean all), seem to think otherwise.
To have my 3 in the top 5 would be perfect, and by a detailed analysis of the bookies, this looks perfectly possible!
I've used a range of factors (Google buzz, youtube views, bookies, what the press are saying this week etc) in determining this, and statistically, it looks possible!💙💛 💔0 -

Don't worry CK. The fact that I think the words and dress are silly has nothing at all to do with whether it will win. Most Eurovision acts includes words and/or clothes that I think are silly, and it's never stopped things winning in the past.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

You have 3 teams entered in the contest? Is that allowed?
Oh, and I agree that Denmark is the favourite at the bookies, by a large margin, and I listened to some more without finding one better than Denmark or even very close.
Will we have any with 'nul points'? That's where the excitement lies.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Apparently their governance rules allow him to be a director involved in running the contest (or maybe just a director of the parent company funding the contest or something - I'm a bit hazy on the details) while also owning a company that's sponsoring three of the acts.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? What's the point of being a sponsor? Will the singers have advertising on their clothes? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

I wouldn't have thought so. I've never seen any advertising on their clothes. More likely to be on the merchandising and/or adverts displayed behind the acts or broadcast during the change overs. CK's company seems to be spending shedloads on salaries, hotels, alcohol etc, so it must be getting something pretty significant in return. Maybe they get a cut of the royalties from future sales of the songs that they sponsor.
CK, can we look out for your company's branding? What should we look out for?Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Lots of singing here today in the garden. No dresses though. I was dressed according to dh as a goth leprechaun which is fine as he was dressed as a yob.
Very cold outside I have come in to warm up.:). We're thinking of ditching supper for some plain popcorn and a film.0 -
This is me too.
I don't often come across others who don't drink. So a special wave to viva and tomterm. :hello: Does the NPT have a higher than average concentration of us?
My driving is all in little bits, but lots of them. I don't hate driving or anything like that, but I would hate to have to clock up the numbers of hours that people like CK and Hamish find unremarkable, or at least not on a regular basis.
Can you still get teetotallers' car insurance? Some Christian Science friends of the family had that years ago.
Lydia I will be emailing you later!0 -

I'm not sure if DDs are old enough for it yet but you would be welcome to come ere and initiate them into it...lostinrates wrote: »Lots of singing here today in the garden. No dresses though. I was dressed according to dh as a goth leprechaun which is fine as he was dressed as a yob.

Also doing some gardening here as my parents came for lunch with a bunch of plants for the garden and it isn't half cold outside. However a good excuse for me to wear my baggie jeans and hoodie which not only keeps me warm but also annoys the neighbours by lowering the tone of the street.I think....0
