I taught for 3 years, so I know it's not as easy as that.
I think to an extent, it's a little like teaching. We've all put in a 100h week last week, this week will do so again, what I meant is that average is probably 40-50h, varied hours, varied work. It's not for all, but it's a good way of working.
We do things a little strangely, but it works for us, and we need to be flexible, due to the nature of the industry we're in.
The actual numbers of hours I work vary from about 22 for an absolute minimum week to nearly 40 at peak times - like last week when I was up late marking until after midnight on 3 nights, and worked Saturday morning in school (independent sector). It's fair enough. I'm part-time and only paid to do 52.5% of a job, and I get 18.5 weeks holiday.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Well I think that is good news..apart from the tummy ache. Poor child.
What was the aversion to alcohol verdict?
Yup. We've had her into our bed 3 times in 10 days complaining about it.
I didn't bring the alcohol aversion up. I'm not that worried about it: drinking less is good and I'm pretty pleased that I've effectively stopped drinking on work nights.
My guess is that it's more stress related than anything else anyway. I am 100% open with my GP about how much I drink BTW, I'm not hiding anything as ultimately you might as well not bother with doctors as lie to them.
I used to work with a bloke who smoked 20-40 cigarettes a day plus used to spend 4-5 hours a day in the pub. He told his Doctor he didn't smoke and rarely drank because he thought it would make his insurance policies cost less. I used to think that he's going to look like a effing idiot when he dies of throat cancer and the Doctor had ruled it out because why would a near teetotal non-smoker have that?
I feel no need to look like a hero in the GP's surgery. There's an old saying, 'No man is a hero to his valet'. I think the word 'valet' should be changed to GP in these days.0 -
Forgot to mention, DH managed to get a last minute ticket and will be going to the Eurovision Song Contest this week. It will be a shame not being able to do our normal watching it together though. He's going to the judges final. Should be fun! Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I drink probably 40-50 units a week of the hard stuff (Russian Standard/Jack Daniels), and smoke 200 a week.
I've never hidden it from my GP, nor have I hidden it from any of our insurers; to do so would be stupid IMO, especially the amounts we are actually insured for, should anything happen to us!

Nice one! A shame you couldn't get 2 tickets
Carola (yes, the 1991 winner) has worked out with the top 3, how to bet so that you won't lose.

I'm a bit of a freak about a clean car, even though it's not signwritten!
ETA: I think 1100 is the least I've done in a single week since I've had it!CKhalvashi wrote: »I drink probably 40-50 units a week of the hard stuff (Russian Standard/Jack Daniels), and smoke 200 a week.
That's impressive, fitting in that much alcohol and that many miles, without overlapping the drinking and the driving.
Edit: At least, it is if you drive yourself. Or do you have a driver, so it doesn't matter if you drink?Do you know anyone who's bereaved? It's surprisingly easy to do....
2 large glasses of wine with dinner at 7pm 5 nights a week is 40 units, with more than enough time to allow your body to metabolise the 8 units at 1 unit per hour before driving the next morning at 8am.
Assuming they finish the wine by 10pm, the average person would be at a BAC of zero by 6am. And legal to drive by 4am.
Add to that a couple of benders on the weekend when you don't have to drive, perhaps another 30 units in total, and you can easily enough consume 70 units or more per week, and drive a couple of hundred miles a day during the week, with no chance of driving illegally.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

900 of the 1100 was driven in about 14 hours, and that's with 45 minutes on the train.
150 more has been airport runs (over 2 days, mainly mornings)
50 has been driving from hotel, to stadium, to shops, etc.
I don't drink and drive, and I don't advocate drinking and driving. If I finish work at 2, I'll do the school run, and have a few whilst doing some paperwork at home, knowing that I won't be in the car until after 3 the following morning. That leaves about 11 hours there.
I don't drive at all on a Monday or Tuesday, and do like a few drinks on the Eurostar/TGV.
