And beside it was the tin opener, which has a small bottle opener, and inside my head I heard the words "break the seal/vacuum", so took the little pointy bottle opener bit and carefully put it under the lid and a 1-2mm wiggle and it went "pop". Marvellous. NPs to the rescue - no gadget needed
I do that, with the wrong end of a cheap spoon.0 -

My big sleep seems to be setting in again. I fell asleep quickly last night and dh had been keeping me awake for about eight pm onwards. This morning dh had to let dogs out...( slept throu my alarm and dog dog had to call for us) and do the others. I have been rising in and our for a while but am only getting dressed now! We wanted to have the poo picking done by now but it will be about eleven now I guess.0

Mrs Zag's the looker and the brains in our home by a long chalk. And a better cook and handywoman.:D.
:rotfl:
I'll not admit Mrs McT is better in the kitchen than I am, (although it's probably true), but she's definitely a better handywoman.
I'm so bad at practical, mechanical, handyman sorts of things that I've been firmly told to stop trying, as the inevitable results of me wanting to save money and do it myself is us spending twice as much when the contractor finally shows up to undo all the damage.
"Hamish is to DIY as a Hurricane is to South Florida", as she often says.
I can just about muddle through the basics, like changing lightbulbs, replacing doorhandles, or cleaning gutters. Given enough time, a small supply of sticking plasters, and lots of muttering and swearing.
I can even paint or varnish at a push. (although wallpaper remains beyond my abilities)
But the moment I reach for the hammer or anything vaguely resembling a power tool, Mrs McT gives me 'the look' and reaches for the yellow pages to call someone that won't stuff it up.:)“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

Hmm - if my first chore of he day was poo picking I think I would struggle even more to wake up.
LIR I am wandering if you find warmth a problem - was it last 'summer' you didn't feel great? Perhaps you are not self regulating for higher temperatures very well?I think....0 -
Dh had no experience of any thing practical before we lived together. His family had been brought up to call people to change lightbulbs, or do with out. (They changed them on lamps). Didn't help that when dh had tried to defy this as a child he had a terrible, terrible electric shock. Once when I had moved some furniture (to clean and ended up rearranging in a better way) a member of his family asked who I had called to move it, and I looked terribly confused till dh explained that it was a world away from each others experience.
But he tries hard and I wouldn't dream of more than gentle joshing over his efforts. He enjoys working it out. Because he's not very practically minded I find it a little frustrating to watch often, but that's part of being a supportive partner....letting him do it and work through it.
He tiled a floor beautifully the first time he did anything like that, really really beautifully. He struggles to remember the names of all the tools etc and confuses the words screw and nail, which makes me cross, but that is MY failing to be worked on.
I enjoy seeing him develop his skills and enjoy it. Something's he amazes me at. He can change the ball !!!! on a water trough in under five minutes now, took ages the first time.0 -

Well winter's setting in here now. It was quite nippy this morning (I won't go as far as to say cold). In fact it was so nippy this morning that the Generalissimos moaned and whinged about how it was too cold to have breakfast outside without dressing gowns on.
The winter here is pretty nice really. Yes the days are a bit short and the houses aren't designed for the colder nights but it's generally very dry without much wind which is great for cycling. Food gets a lot more expensive though which is a pain.0 -
The heart bleeds for you, Gen....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
