The paediatrician in OHs family says that signs of being on the autistic spectrum usually show themselves in the same age range as we vaccinate (is it 12-18 months?) couple that with being off colour generally setting kids back and people link the 2 when there is no connection. His children were all vaccinated.

I think we will have to agree to disagree about it. For us, it was too much of a coincidence to ignore, not just with my children but with my nephews.

I have my own theory in that the MMR on its own does not cause autism but that it somehow triggers it in someone who was susceptable to it (for example, a recessive or dormant gene) or was so mild in symptoms, it was barely noticable.

Strangely, the only one of mine who does not have autism is also the one where the MMR failed.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    I get flu vaccine because I'm old-ish. :O

I get it because I am genetically rubbish and have a large sprinkling of long term conditions.

I've become slightly less enamoured of the whole funeral thing for entirely selfish reasons, now that I've realised that I'm in the High Court on Wednesday, and that getting there and away again will probably be a nightmare.

OH is in the Court of Appeal tomorrow the whole day, in front of a full panel (3 Court of Appeal judges( so he's nervously over-ironed a shirt, made sure his waistcoat's clean and he knows where his collar studs are, and gone to bed early.
Hope the cases went well.......London didn't have protests/riots afterall but a ton of people went up there to line the procession route......... I listened to a small bit of funeral coverage on the radio (which wasn't conducive to a bubbly creative work atomosphere so we turned it over) .... haven't seen the tv footage yet.

The MMR + BCG chat is fascinating (yes my life is that exciting :)) as we realised only recently that DD wasn't made to queue up outside large room with her sleeve rolled up waiting for the puncture jab of 9 needles. This would mean she is not immune to TB....and come to think of t....DS didn't have it either I think....terrible parent I am as I don't know.

DS was the part of the pilot group for MMR .....our borough was the pilot area but maybe it was just our estate. I know it was radical and new at the time and I didn't have any concerns.....however, it was a very poor estate and part of me wonders if us poor people (the 'they' who lived on 'those' type of estates) were experimented on?

I recall my mother saying 'how wonderful' it was that there was a jab for measles as we were really ill as kids with it.

DD had it as DS had no issues longterm but I do remember him being pretty poorly for a few days after it.

Should my kids be vaccinated against TB? I have heard it's coming back but I also thought you were more likely to get it if you were undernourished/ had poor lungs (eg; asthma).

I know! The ridiculousness of it tickles me. And yes, I think certainly private might be worth it. In a telephone appt today (i asked him to sort his out today while i am on a roll) with dh the surgery was telling dh that mumps wasn't that likely to cause serious testicular problems and I said why take any risks?

It also seems contrary to epidemic control measures that we are reminded often are important to not jab the unstuck willing to be pin cushions!
I thought a non-immune male who gets mumps will be miserable anyway if they get the usual symptoms but if they get orchitis as part of the deal they will suffer immensely and may lose testicular function.

You can't have too much immunity in a population. Especially keen that they vaccinate against BCG, even though it's not fully efffective. At least vaccines don't promote resistance to antibiotics (or resistance to vaccines before anybody asks).

I used to find that the most obvious questions can make people struggle to find obvious answers.

If I ask a class why prevention is better than cure, it can take ages before someone spots that it missses out the suffering.:D

Nah, but it is mainly my own fault:D I just simply couldn't write the kind of quantity of erotica without going out of my mind:D

So, I went with the more slow and steady option of writing the kind of things that I want to write, (science fiction, fantasy, that kind of thing) and slowly getting better at it.

It's a pity. I know people who are making a small fortune at erotica, but it just right for me:o

Have to make my millions slowly.

Gosh.......Gosh :).... I have OH who is sat on the sofa watching Benidorm (just came downstairs after painting walls in DD room) and he just asked me what the gossip is on the wire here......like if Old Horse is OK and so on......I can't possible say, well there was a bloke called Tomterm, and disapeared for a spell (BTW he has rare sheep that get stuck in gates/fences) and it was because he left to write erotica.

I think the 9 needle thing was to test if children already had it and were now immune. Only those who didn't react to the needles get the BCG afterwards. Not everybody needs to get it.

I think the BCG leaves (or used to leave) a major scar so it might be possible to tell from the scar on the arm.

I think there's be a concern it could spread fastest in denser housing areas. We've already got the worst TB rate in Europe, focussed on Leicester.

Re the funeral, dh was meant to be meeting someone for lunch. He stepped out of his office and found a walk that normally takes two minutes took twenty, so called to cancel, and made his way back. He had o idea it was going on outside his window.

He would be a hopeless reporter, or spy!

Should my kids (19 + 25) have it or let it be?
