I think it is a routine immuniation in the US where they can not understand why we do not do it here.
In the States it is law that you cannot be enrolled in a school without proving you have been immunised.

Here parents have a "choice" and so are at the hands of the media.

The "Dr" who produced the report that most people were acting on when they refused to immunise has since been struck off for his 'advice'.

This has come up before. I have been to school in states, so maybe I have been immunised against more than I think? Dh has been to school there too. Or maybe its not requisite in all states or a more recent change if it is?

I guess we will find out when we get the vaccination records!

I had chickenpox as an adult in my 30s and it was awful. I looked like Freddie Kruger and my face peeled off. Horrid. Sorry if I've disturbed anyone's eating of cornflakes with this description. That's with a functioning immune system. Is there any vaccination?

I had chickenpox at 20. It was foul. I had spots EVERYWHERE (eyelid, back of throat, inside ear, other locations not mentionable on public forum). I couldn't sleep for itching, except occasionally to drift off and dream about somebody itching and quite literally wake up and realise it was me. :(

I have also had measles (as a baby, the week before I was booked in to be vaccinated), rubella (also as a baby, immune status checked in my teens) and mumps (at about 4). I have been vaccinated against polio, tetanus and other things (diphtheria and whooping cough, I imagine) as well as cholera, typhoid and smallpox. The thing that I have not had is a BCG for TB - I lived in a county that didn't do it when I was the age when it's usually done.

My kids both had MMR without any problems. Sue, your experience with your boys sounds very scary. I'm sure nobody could blame you for making the decision you did about youngest's booster.

Thinking about this some more, if you aren't well there is even more reason for fir to have the vaccination, to protect you from catching it from him.

    What silvercar said.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Still the same policy now. DS1 was offered the BCG and DS2 wasn't, as they were at secondary schools in different areas.

Were you both especially careful during your pregnancies?

Edit: Surgery just phoned back. They want to do a blood test first to see what immunity status is. Booked in, with maximum efficiency for an appointment after my smear. This is all terribly responsible of me and efficient of them. :)

I didn't know it was a problem until after Isaac was born, so I wasn't careful - but I had almost no contact with children when I was pregnant anyway, so I was fine.

My Mama had to be a lot more careful, because she was surrounded by infants.

I've had measles and chickenpox. Not had whooping cough - my sister caught it when we were on holiday in Greece when she was 3 and I was 5, and I didn't catch it myself. Not had mumps, either.

I had all the normal polio, diptheria etc jabs, and then whole hosts of extra ones when I went to India for a couple of months - Hepatitis A, Hep B, rabies (that is several, makes you feel horrible, and doesn't even stop you getting rabies, just gives you longer to seek the treatment if you're bitten by something rabid) and various other ones I can't now remember.

Upshot of today is that if dh wants vacs he has to pay for them privately.

His uk records show some vacs in 81/82 but not the things like measles.

Yep, it's crazy, both dh and I have had the 'exotic' jabs for travel! But probably not some basic childhood ones:rotfl:
