Last year a shelduck who we named Creaky came to stay for spring and summer, later a wife joined him, I am thrilled to say he is back this year. He is quite bold and seems to consider himself 'home'. We also have another new variety...a tufted duck, he is very striking, especially with the also quite fab looking shelduck. What with the mallards and the coots we have quite a collections of water birds now!

[FONT=&quot]The Generalissimos are in a huge amount of trouble. I found Generalissimo #1 watching videos on You Tube with a ton of swearing in them. I asked him if they used the 'Eff word' and Generalissimo #2 (aged 6) said, "Oh you mean F...?".

I told my son not to watch videos with swearing in them a while back, he decided to wear headphones instead. Thoughts about punishment? We've decided so far that there's no computer until the weekend. Then....

    1. No You Tube without a parent present for ages (until Christmas?). Parent friendly vids only so no videos of other kids playing computer games.

    2. No computer at all for a bit (a week?)

I am f$@%ing livid!!! I trusted him (them) and it was thrown back in my face. Arrgh!!!!!!!

You are f word livid? That made me giggle.

Seriously...I wouldn't let a kid that little have unsupervised access to the Internet at all. (Edit...just realised its the littler one who is that little, how big is gen 1?)

I understand you are cross he has lied to you, but its a boundary that is begging to be crossed.

Also, how is he to know a swear word (or other inappropriate) is in something if he has not watched it yet? You are asking a tiny little man to make a fairly grown up evaluation of material IMO.

Can't remember if I posted this before. we noticed DS's epipens were expired so requested more. He needs 2 pens and we requested 2 to be held at his school (they won't take him otherwise), 2 for DW and 2 for me. We then got a call from the GP practice manager 'strongly suggesting' that we manage with 2 altogther between DW and me the unstated reason being cost to the fund-holding practice :(
    I think....

I think you are right about t'internet and kids - I am just getting to the time when I am needing to do this for my DKs. I think I have switched on Google safe search and the bit in youtube that stops you getting the worst stuff but I think I am going to have to look into restricting access to 'white-listed' sites. We have phones, tablets, netbooks, laptops and PCs all over the house so trying to restrct access to same room as adult is just not going to work.
    I think....

AIUI kids shouldn't go on PCs without a parent in the room - and they suggest the PC is put in the living room. This stops them watching violence/!!!!!! and being groomed by sweaty fat p4edos etc.

It annoyed me to read about the 'MMR Controversy' as there was no controversy. MMR was always safe and never had a connection with autism. The only people who thought there was were the usual intellectually arrogant types.
Quite. I'm pleased that vaccines are such a big part of the curriculum now. If people don't want to believe in moon landings, God help them but it won't put their lives at risk.

If they belive tosh about disease prevention and avoidance then it could all get very Darwinian quite quickly.

I used to teach people who worked with anthrax. When I asked how dangerous that was, somebody pointed out that the first sign of anthrax is usually death!

I think the grooming is a big one really. And it's on perfectly safe sites..kids sites, nothing inappropriate that could be filtered really.

I mean, our boundaries here are not as good as they should be, and we are all adults.

In last house and current house the PC was in a room that was a through way so a parent was likely to be walking past every few minutes and unannounced. Otherwise there'd be a parent sitting next to them about 3ft away watching TV with a direct view of the monitor.

My eldest is just 8. He still covers his eyes at violent TV and starts shouting for someone to change the channel (we don't have a watershed in Aus so you can go from a cooking show to one of those horrible violent US cop procedure shows in a couple of minutes).

What annoyed me was the lying. Trust takes a long time to build and a moment to destroy. That has to be the lesson for him here.
