Here it's wide of the mark. Very.0 -
Re cousins and descendants, where somebody dies without any will and having no known relatives - heir hunters have to track down any relatives (for a commission) so the money doesn't end up going to the Treasury.
Since 1925 the limits to which you can inherit from intestacy were limited due to the vast number of potential heirs that can be found. What (partly) caused this change in the law to occur was a case where a lot of money was left - and by the time the cost of tracking down all potential heirs (at the time the limit was up to g-grandparents and descendants thereof) had been totted up there was nothing left in the estate.
Inheriting out of the blue now stops (England/Wales only) at grandparents and their offspring.
If nobody qualifies under these rules there are a few exceptions under which somebody related from great-grandparents down could be accommodated.0 -

There is/ was a programme on BBC1 (in the 9.15am 'start of daytime tv' slot) called 'Heir Hunters. They would get the lists (think there were more than one sort) and be racing around the country trying to identify/ locate heirs (and more to the try to point sign them up before a competitor).
Edit: 'Racing' as fast as you can with a microfiche0 -
I think I have 3 paternal cousins plus some 'American' have cousins I don't really know a lot about then maternal ones I have I think 8 although they are all younger enough that I don't know them that well (my mum was eldest and started 'early' at 21 or 22). Then there are the 4 siblings with so far 5 nephews/nieces but 2 siblings have not got started yet and are still young enough. However we generally seem to mix with siblings rather than cousins but then we are all very widely dispersed.
My dad was the eldest, my mum the youngest.
Mum had her first child just a few weeks after her 18th birthday, dad would have been almost 20 at the time. Unfortunately, he died when he was 6 months old.
Mum's only sibling who didn't have children was the eldest son, two of dad's siblings didn't have their own children, one chose not to have children (the youngest sibling), the other had damaged kidneys, so her and her husband adopted a brother and sister...who now very spookily look like my aunt and uncle! Even though they were adopted, we don't see them as any less of a cousin than the others.
Anyway, long day today. I did my bit of window shopping, James had a spend up....he has gone for a bit of an image change and had all his hair chopped off (gone from very long hair to quite short) and the beard and moustache is history. Of course, with the hair change, he has to have the clothes to go with it and luckily he picked up a fancy shirt, waistcoat and pinstripe trousers for £30 the lot....oh how he loves sales and his student card.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Yes, just started watching. Thought I recognised the street names and just checked - I went to a conference a block or so away a few years ago.
I just don't understand how anyone could do a thing like that. I really don't.0 -
