How do you measure - is it external dimensions x number of storeys or are you supposed to size every room - what about stairs?

One reads ones architects' plans or 3d house survey map ;)

In all seriousness, I usually refer to the sales details of our house, which had them on. I'm not sure hey are right, but.....near enough.

One has architects plans but they don't include a square metre figure, one was trying not to draw the planners' attention to the total amount of extra space.
    I think....

Fc123, is it the digital print fabric cushions? Yummy. The great thing is so much will work with that.

We have opted for the majority preference bird print i linked for our study blinds.....the fabric samples clinched it. The soft velvet looks perfect in the hard north east light, and the colours are just perfect. The splodgey chrysanthemums modern one is still my favourite of the two, but it looks too sketchy at the windows. We will have a cushion of it though in the same room.

Nice builder was urging my to consider midfield over wood for the shelving and cabinetry in there and I was resisting, but now I think...well....I think he is right. It's all to be painted the same colour as the walls anyway.

    MDF?!

One thinks it is 180sqm including the garage.

Well, then you should have had a set with figures for you too. And a blank copy for planners :D

I know, The idea is abhorrent isn't it? Almost like ....plastic.

But it paints well. And is cheaper. I want to unpack books in a big way now, and need shelves.

Hi fc... cushions look gorgeous. In terms of wallpapers, something you may want to consider... The most stunning wallpaper I've ever seen was hung horizontally in a place that, to be fair, was selling design. I have no idea how it was done but it looked really architectural and fab. So don't think you have to think in terms of vertical repeat. Having said that, I don't know how many people there are in the UK that can paper hang horizontally.

Sounds nice...I can't find the link to the site I found but I just had my new textile print sample lengths delivered and 3 will make perfect cushions, curtains and one wall wallpaper. I will have to cheat a bit and use a place up north to make me 10 - 15m sample length on canvas or cotton...but then not book the bulk.

I have been quite barren with interior decorating ideas until yesterday as I took a rare weekday off (maybe 1st extra day out for 4 years) to steam off the anaglypta paper on our bedroom (to become DD's new room) and then they flowed.

I recall when viewing the house 18 odd years ago walking into the room thinking 'mmm that basket weave and rose textured swirl on the ceiling will have to go straight away'...better late then never eh :).

Thing is with a '68 build we need to go with the period of the house so it suits a modern look but we don't have a Ligne Roset budget so it could end up looking like one walked into a display area in B+Q or Ikea....which is okay-ish in bits but it's hard to get the look I fancy on a shoestring.

Much easier wth a period house as you have flea markets for a start for furniture etc. The Margate one, if it happens, will be easier and more fun.

No idea, an EA did it for us a few years back when we were thinking of selling.

You can pop up here to lodgerland if you want to feel better. You can take in the scenery (downstairs's poorly maintained garden, and the damp walls in here). Probably best to dress warmly though (I have a hot water bottle on my feet and am wearing fingerless gloves - its all glamour here!).

FC - those cushions are rather lovely :) Hardly any houses are coming up for sale in the areas I like. And the ones that do are creeping up in price. And going SSTC within a few weeks :( I want to be looking for cushions and suchlike!

It will be fine once you are in. I am 50 yrs old in 3 weeks time and currently am living with a camping kitchen, concrete floors and a sun lounge full of tools. Been a homeowner since I was 27 and can't remember ever having our home all fully finished/done up.
The 1st was the worst as we had a 3 yr old and no heating/hot water or kitchen for about a year....and it was still better than the high rise flat we had moved out from. In fact we had no carpets, furniture and the stairs collapsed so we used a ladder to get upstairs for a while............+ then the int rates went up and we were beyond skint.

In fact, when I look back I can't believe we survived it all.....OH's uncle said to us 'it'll all pay off, don't you worry' and I never believed him especially as other family members were getting nice places for free....but he was right....just took 25 years of graft :)

It was mdf becoming midfield that got me - happy for you to use it to build shelves/cupboard - does anyone else find bookshelves always bow if you actually fill them with books rather than just adding the odd book and lots of photos/objets...

I am thinking CD racks, video cabinets and even DVD shelves are becoming obsolete and (I know we discussed it this afternoon) but maybe bookshelves will soon go the same way?

MDF is ok stuff. It does paint well ...agreed.

Yes the digital print ones. I bought 4 X 'fire'.:)

The most exciting delivery was the new bed from Warren Evans on half price. It's like sleeping on a hotel bed....I am really looking forward to going to bed ....it will be night no 4 in the new bed.

Our mattress was so lumpy and daggy. Last time we bought a mattress for here was 18 years ago I think. When we rented we had beds in the places but the last one we slept on the floor for a while then got the carved walnut bed from Ebay....DD has the mattress from that.

The walnut one has been sitting dismantled in the sun lounge since we moved back from Brighton. I think it's going to go to Margate.

    Haha, hadn't noticed!

Fwiw people always say you have to have typed something for it o auto correct to it...it's not true. It's just as well macputer doesn't swear much though.

The thing is tha some people will still have books. Even if we hot rid of everything available digitally there would be stuff w have that isn't. Then there are the first editions ( mainly dh's.....I prefer scruffy paperbacks that look like they have been in a fight with a Ten tonne truck and lost).

Eta .: if they bow then I think they are too wide.
